Skyhawks return to conference play with a victory

MT. KISCO, N.Y. (March 26, 2011) – Stonehill College, currently ranked fourth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional poll, opened their spring Northeast-10 Conference schedule with a 9-0 victory over host Pace University on Saturday evening.

Senior Lindsey Herchel (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) earned wins at both No. 1 singles and doubles, defeating Pace’s Liz Plakhotnaya (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill) in straight sets and teaming with sophomore Jacquelyn Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) to take down Plakhotnaya and Danielle Sidoti (Renesselaer, N.Y./Columbia) 8-1 in the top doubles slot.

Junior Amy Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) dispatched Sidoti at No. 2 singles, and sophomore Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit), freshman Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway), and junior Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass./Lee) followed with victories as Stonehill swept through the singles slate without dropping a game. Martin and junior Leah White (Walpole, Mass./Bishop Feehan) combined for an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Stonehill (8-1, 4-0 NE-10) will open their home schedule tomorrow morning when they host the University of New Haven at 11 a.m.
