Skyhawks rebound from season’s first defeat with a sweep

Lindsey Herchel earned wins at No. 1 singles and doubles.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 16, 2011) – Stonehill College, currently ranked fourth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional poll, blanked Tiffin University 9-0 in a non-conference match Wednesday at Star Island Resort.

Senior Lindsey Herchel (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional), junior Leah White (Walpole, Mass./Bishop Feehan), and sophomore Jacquelyn Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) were all double winners for Stonehill as every player on the roster earned a victory.

Herchel led the Skyhawks with a strong performance against Emily Egan-Morris (Loughborough, England) at No. 1 singles, battling to a 7-5 victory in the first set before notching a 6-1 win in the second. She and Harrow paired for an 8-1 win over Jessica Stefanov (Canton, Ohio) and Taylor Cooper (Mansfield, Ohio) in the top doubles slot, and Harrow dispatched Renee Mattson (Ashtabula, Ohio) 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.

After recording Stonehill’s only double victory yesterday against Navy, White followed with two more against the Dragons today, including a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Cooper at No. 3 singles. She and freshman Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) blanked Mattson and Nicole Ardner (Tiffin, Ohio) 8-0 at No. 2 doubles to extend their unbeaten streak to 15 matches, and juniors Bacall Brooks (York, Maine/Saint Thomas Aquinas) and Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass./Lee) teamed up for the first time this season to earn an 8-2 victory in the third doubles slot.

Stonehill (6-1, 3-0 NE-10) wraps up spring break competition in Kissimmee tomorrow against the University of Indianapolis at 8:00 a.m.
