Stonehill Blanks Franklin Pierce in NE-10 Opener, 9-0

Senior captain Lindsey Herchel led a group of five double winners for Stonehill at Franklin Pierce this afternoon.

Herchel leads double-winners for Skyhawks with wins at first singles and doubles

RINDGE, N.H. (September 29, 2010) – Stonehill College, ranked fourth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, opened its Northeast-10 Conference schedule with a 9-0 victory over Franklin Pierce University in women's tennis action this afternoon.

Senior captain Lindsey Herchel (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) led the double-winners for Stonehill as she posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Franklin Pierce junior Kaitlin Krolikowski (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) at first singles after teaming up with sophomore Jacquelyn Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) for an 8-0 sweep at first doubles. Junior Leah White (Walpole, Mass./Bishop Feehan), sophomores Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) and Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and freshman Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) were also double-winners for the Skyhawks.

White didn't drop a single game in posting a 6-0, 6-0 win at second doubles after combining with Martin for an 8-1 decision at second doubles. Martin also registered a 6-1, 6-0 win at fourth singles. Frost picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles after teaming up with Haedrich for an 8-0 result at third doubles. Haedrich also coasted to an 8-0 win at sixth singles.

Stonehill (2-0, 1-0 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday when it visits The College of Saint Rose at noon. Franklin Pierce (0-3, 0-3 NE-10) hosts Saint Rose on Saturday at 2 p.m.
