EASTON, Mass. (December 17, 2015) – Two members of the Stonehill College women's soccer team have earned All-New England honors from the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) the organization has announced.

Junior goalkeeper Jamie Block (Georgetown, Massachusetts/Georgetown) earns All-New England honors for the first time with her selection to the NEWISA second team, while classmate Claire O'Brien (West Hartford, Connecticut/Hall) has been named to the NEWISA first team defense for the first time in her decorated career.

O'Brien and Block, who were named co-captains to begin the season, were the foundation of a stingy defense that ranked seventh in the NE-10 in goals against average (1.16), and registered six shutouts throughout the season.

Junior goalkeeper Jamie Block earns the first NEWISA All-New England selection of her career after garnering All-NE-10 third team accolades earlier this fall.

This is O'Brien's third consecutive year being recognized by NEWISA for her stellar play, and the first time being placed on the first team. The junior standout earned NEWISA second team honors her freshman and sophomore year.

The West Hartford, Connecticut native has never missed a contest at Stonehill making 54-consecutive starts on the backline for the Skyhawks. Over that three-year stretch, Stonehill's defense allowed a minuscule 1.28 GAA to opponents in 5,090 minutes of action.

A 2013 graduate of William H. Hall High School in West Hartford, Connecticut, O'Brien was a four-year letterwinner for head coach Scott Ferguson. She was named to the All-Academic team all four years at Hall, in addition to earning Central Connecticut Conference (CCC) All-West Division honors as a junior and senior.

Block earns NEWISA second team honors after posting six shutouts in 18 starts this fall, a 1.16 goals against average (GAA), 91 saves and a .805 save percentage. At the conclusion of the regular season, Block ranked third in the NE-10 in saves, fourth in shutouts, and minutes played (1708:50), eighth in GAA and tenth in save percentage.

In her career at Stonehill, Block has played in 35 games (34 starts), turned away 179 shots and has recorded a 1.20 GAA in nearly 3,000 minutes in net. The junior goalkeeper has compiled 10 career shutouts. In the classroom, Block has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll four times and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll on two separate occasions.

A 2013 graduate of Georgetown High School in Georgetown, Massachusetts, Block was a four-year letterwinner for Coach Colleen Gibbs. She was named to the Cape Ann League All-Star as a junior and senior, and CAL All-League player as a senior. Block played her club soccer with North Shore United.
