Junior Jamie Block matches season-high with seven saves

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 22, 2015) – Junior goalkeeper Jamie Block (Georgetown, Massachusetts/Georgetown) matched her season-high with seven saves, but Stonehill College was dealt a 2-0 setback at Southern New Hampshire University this evening in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at Larkin Field.

Block kept Stonehill in the contest in the first half, turning away all four shots that came her way as the Skyhawks and Penmen headed to the break tied 0-0.

Southern New Hampshire opened the scoring just 3:37 into the second half, however, as a corner kick taken by Penmen junior midfielder Alexa Poulin (Tewksbury, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) and subsequent flick by classmate Olivia Parsons (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth South) resulted in sophomore forward Trisha Luis' (Lowell, Massachusetts/Lowell) team-leading fourth goal of the season.

The Penmen doubled their advantage late in the contest, when senior midfielder Gabby Cappello (Andover, Massachusetts/Andover) headed home a rebound following a save by Block in the 79th minute.

Block's seven stops this evening matched her effort in Stonehill's 1-0 loss to Saint Anselm in the Catholic Cup on September 5th. The junior registered a career-best 11 saves last November in the NE-10 Tournament quarterfinals against Assumption College.

Juniors Brianna Duserick (Canton, Massachusetts/Canton) and Lauren Kapatoes (Hopedale, Massachusetts/Hopedale) and senior Meagan Elliott (Norton, Massachusetts/Norton) all put shots on net in the second half, but Southern New Hampshire junior goalkeeper Autumn Scanlon (Waltham, Massachusetts/Waltham) stopped each attempt to secure her first shutout of the season.

Stonehill (2-4-1, 1-2 NE-10) will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon, when the Skyhawks return home to host Adelphi University at 1 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (5-1, 3-1 NE-10) is also back in action on Saturday against Assumption at Larkin Field.
