Andrea Mancuso scores her second goal of the season
EASTON, Mass. (October 26, 2015) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team dug itself into an early hole before falling by a 4-1 margin against American International College (AIC) today in Northeast-10 (NE-10) competition at Skyhawk Field.
Freshman forward Federica Frew (Melbourne, Australia/Ivanhoe Grammar School) scored a pair of goals to lead American International, while classmate Johanna Nilsson (Ulricehamn, Sweden/Tingsholmsgymnasiet) registered a goal and an assist.
Frew opened the scoring in the 5th minute on a rebound off the crossbar, shot by Nilsson to stake the Yellow Jackets to an early advantage. The visiting team would double its lead in the 26th minute, when Frew collected a pass on the top of the box and spun around a defender, shooting the ball to the far left corner of the net to give American International a 2-0 lead.
AIC scored again just four minutes before halftime and once more in the 53rd minute to push the lead to 4-0. Stonehill didn't back down, getting a goal back in the 72nd minute. Junior Andrea Mancuso (Highland Mills, New York/Cornwall Central) established position on the right flank where freshman Courtney Campo (North Quincy/Massachusetts/Quincy) found her with a pass. Mancuso took the pass and beat a defender, then launched a shot that dipped right under the crossbar into the upper left hand corner of the net.
Stonehill junior goalkeeper Jamie Block (Georgetown, Massachusetts/Georgetown) made three saves on the afternoon while her counterpart, graduate goalkeeper Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, New York/Whitesboro) turned away five shots.
American International held a 14-11 advantage in shots in the contest, but Stonehill held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
Stonehill (3-9-4, 2-7-3 NE-10), will look to bounce back on Wednesday, as the Skyhawks travel to North Andover to take on Merrimack College at 7:00 p.m. American International (11-5-1, 9-3-1 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday as well, when the Yellow Jackets host Bentley University at 7:00 p.m.
