NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (October 28, 2015) – Junior goalkeeper Jamie Block (Georgetown, Massachusetts/Georgetown) registered a career-high 12 saves, but Stonehill College dropped a 2-0 road decision at Merrimack College tonight in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at the Martone-Mejail Field.

Block kept Stonehill in the contest throughout the game, turning away four shots in the first half, before making an incredible eight saves in the second.

Senior forward Meagan Elliott (Norton, Massachusetts/Norton) recorded a team-high three shots and nearly got the Skyhawks on the board in the 17th minute when her shot clanked off of the post. Sophomore Taylor Shannahan (Mendham, New Jersey/Morris Catholic) also had a scoring opportunity, hitting the post and denying the Skyhawks an early one goal advantage in the 24th minute.

Merrimack opened the scoring in the 41st minute when sophomore Cori Gillen (Stow, Massachusetts/Nashoba) collected a rebound and fired the ball into the back of the net. The Warriors doubled its lead just two minutes later. Freshman Mckenna Moore (Seattle, Washington/Roosevelt) one timed a pass from classmate Hannah Perez (Cheshire, Connecticut/Chesire) and beat Block, the goal staked the host to a 2-0 lead before halftime.

Merrimack split its time in net with sophomore goalkeeper Molly Meehan (Fairfield, Connecticut/Saint Joseph) and senior Meghan Gulbrandsen (Haverhill, Massachusetts/Haverhill). The two goalkeepers combined for the shutout, earning the Warriors its sixth shutout on the season.

Stonehill (3-10-4, 2-8-3 NE-10) will look to rebound this Saturday at noon, when the Skyhawks square off with Le Moyne College at Skyhawk Field for senior day. Merrimack (11-3-3, 8-3-2 NE-10) will remain in North Andover for its next match, as the Warriors host nationally ranked the College of Saint Rose on Saturday at 1 p.m.
