Women's Golf Wraps Up FDU Invitational

Roman and Hidalgo lead Skyhawks to 13th place finish, while Brodahl cards team-best third round score with 82

HAMBURG, N.J. (April 8, 2024) – Stonehill College wrapped up play at the FDU Invitational with a 13th place team finish with its entirely underclass lineup on the 5,901-yard, par-72 layout at Crystal Springs Country Club today.

Freshmen Kenna Roman and Sydney Hidalgo led the way for Stonehill, finishing off their second-round scores of 79 that marked Stonehill's two lowest rounds of the weekend as play wrapped up this morning, before third round play got underway. Classmate Helen Brodahl carded the Skyhawks lowest third round score with an 82 today. Stonehill finished the three rounds in 13th place overall after a 338-team score today finishing 14 shots better (364-327-338=1029) than fellow Northeast Conference member Le Moyne College (347-354-342=1043) after the teams finished Sunday night tied for 13th. The Skyhawks were also 16 shots behind Wagner College (340-343-330=1013) of the NEC.

Roman, who finished off a second round 79 this morning which is one shot shy of her season-best and included an even-par 35 on the back nine on Saturday afternoon, finished in 47th place in the field of 83 golfers after her score of 84 in the third round for a 250 total (87-79-84). She played the front nine in three-over-par 40 and carded six of her nine pars in the round on the front. Roman finished the tournament tied for sixth in the field for par-3 scoring at 3.13 (+2).

Hidalgo, whose second round 79 was also completed this morning and was a stroke off her season-best, finished 57th overall after an 87 in the third round and an overall total of 255 (89-79-87). She recorded six pars during her round today and her second round 79 featured a back nine played in one-under-par 34 yesterday afternoon, including back-to-back birdies on the par-3 13th and par-5 14th holes.

Brodahl posted Stonehill's lowest third round score with her 82 today to move up to 66th overall with a three-round score of 263 (93-88-82). She carded back-to-back birdies on the par-4 seventh and par-5 eighth holes that put her two-under for her round after starting on the sixth hole. The two birdies give her a team-high five for the tournament to rank 14th in the field and she also recorded eight pars in her round, including five on the back nine on her way to a five-over-par 40 on the back.

Quinnipiac University finished off the team title with a three-round score of 904 (302-302-300) with the lowest team score of the tournament, 30 shots better than Fairfield University (316-307-311). The Bobcats posted the three lowest rounds of the event and swept the top two spots on the medalist leaderboard. Leeyen Peralta, who was five shots off the lead after the first round, rallied to take the individual title after a two-under-par 70 today and three-round score of even-par 216 (74-72-70). She finished three shots lower than teammate Aimee Uchida (69-75-75=219), who posted the lowest round of the tournament in the first.

  • Sophomore Jaelyn DeBoise completed her second round 82 this morning and added an 87 in the second round to finish 67th overall at 264 (95-82-87). She posted a birdie on the par-4 seventh hole – her final of the day and completed the front nine in two-over-par 39 by adding five of her seven pars in the third round on the front.
  • Freshman Carol Pignato finished tied for 68th overall after her third round 85 for a three-round score of 270 (98-87-85). She collected a birdie on the par-5 14th hole and totaled six of her eight pars in the third round on the front nine.
  • Senior Hannah Pignato finished 80th overall at 298 (96-105-97).

Stonehill is right back on the course on Thursday for its final tune-up prior to the NEC Championships as it hosts a regular season tournament at its home course, Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton, Massachusetts, for the first time with the Skyhawk Senior Showdown with Merrimack College and Bryant University on Thursday at noon.
