Women's Golf Finishes Tenth at Bucknell Fall Invite

Hidalgo and Pignato card final round 81s to lead Skyhawks up one spot in team standings

LEWISBURG, Pa. (September 10, 2023) – With a young lineup of one sophomore and four first-year student-athletes, Stonehill College moved up one spot to finish tenth in the team standings following the third and final round of the Bucknell Fall Invitational, hosted by Bucknell University on the 5,901-yard, par-70 layout at Bucknell Golf Club this morning.

Freshmen Sydney Hidalgo and Carol Pignato led the way for Stonehill in this morning's third round by both carding 81s to finish the event tied for 45th overall out of 61 golfers on the individual leaderboards with matching scores of 247. Hidalgo matched her first round 81 with today, while carding an 85 in Saturday afternoon's second round. Pignato matched Hidalgo's 81 this morning after shooting 82 and 84 during yesterday's 36-hole opening day. Hidalgo registered seven pars and no double-bogeys or worse today, including a four-over-par 38 on the back nine. Pignato birdied the par three tenth hole for the second straight round after shooting a four-over-par 40 on the front nine. She totaled a team-high three birdies over the two-day event in all.

Stonehill was able to move up one spot past Niagara University (991) to tenth in the team standings with a three-round score of 989 (322-336-331) with the five Skyhawks in the lineup all shooting rounds of 86 or better over the weekend. Stonehill's five team entries were separated by just four strokes over the three rounds of play. Boston University (294-295-299=888) won the team title by eight strokes over host Bucknell (292-299-305=896), with Navy in third (301-294-302=897) just a stroke further back. Boston University's Christy Chen held on to win take medalist honors in wire-to-wire fashion with her five-over-par three round score of 215 five strokes better than Mara Hirtle of Navy after Chen shot a 76 today. Hirtle's three-over-par 73 today capped off a ten-over-par 220 (73-74-73) at the event. Yuki Zhu from Lehigh University carded the low round of the day at one-under-par 69 – one of just three sub-par rounds on the weekend (Chen & Lila Smith of Bucknell).

  • Freshman Kenna Roman, who carded an opening round 78 on Saturday morning, finished 50th at 249 (78-85-86) after her round of 86 today, shooting a five-over-par 39 on the back.
  • Freshman Helen Brodahl finished tied for 51st at 250 (81-83-86) with eight pars today.
  • Sophomore Jaelyn DeBoise rounded out the Skyhawks separated by just four strokes over three rounds in a tie for 53rd at 251 (84-84-83) with the Skyhawks third-lowest round today. She posted a birdie on the par three 13th hole and finished with a five-over-par 41 on the front with seven pars to go with the birdie.
