Roman Leads the Way for Women's Golf in Suspended Second Round at FDU Invitational

Berlin, Connecticut, freshman is tied for 38th with four holes still to play in second round after first day

HAMBURG, N.J. (April 7, 2024) – Freshman Kenna Roman leads the way for Stonehill College as second round play was suspended Sunday evening due to darkness, bringing to a close the first day of the FDU Invitational, hosted at the 5,901-yard, par-72 layout at Crystal Springs Country Club.

Stonehill had moved into a tie for 13th in the team standings with fellow Northeast Conference member Le Moyne College when play was suspended with all six of the Skyhawks golfers still on the course with anywhere from three to five holes still to play. Stonehill posted a 364-team score in the morning's opening round to sit 14th in the field. Roman led the way with an 87 this morning (T54), carding a pair of birdies on the par-3 fifth and par-5 12th holes. She started both of her rounds on the ninth hole and was even par on the back nine of her second round today, shooting 35 after carding back-to-back birdies on the par-3 15th and par-4 16th holes. Roman is six-over-par through 15 holes when play was suspended, moving up to a tie for 38th overall.

Quinnipiac University held the first-round lead after a 302 team score this morning, nine shots better than second place Merrimack College (311). The Bobcats' Aimee Uchida held the first-round lead on the medalist leaderboard after shooting three-under-par 69 this morning – four strokes lower than Hofstra University's Cynthia Zhao (73). Uchida's first round lead has dipped to two shots with a hole still to be played tomorrow morning, ahead of teammate Leeyen Peralta (74-72=146) after finishing her second round even par – two-over-par overall.

  • Freshman Sydney Hidalgo is tied for 41st overall with four holes still to play in her second round after carding an 89 for Stonehill this morning. She is five-over-par on her second round after playing the back nine at one-under, including consecutive birdies on the par-3 13th and par-5 14th.
  • Sophomore Jaelyn DeBoise is in 65th place with five holes remaining in her second round after shooting a 95 this morning (74th place). She has a pair of birdies so far, carding one on the par-3 ninth in the second round after posting one on the par-4 seventh this morning.
  • Freshman Helen Brodahl is tied for 68th with three holes left in her second round after opening with a 93 this morning (71st). She also carded two birdies today on the par-5 14th hole in the first round and the par-3 ninth this afternoon.
  • Freshman Carol Pignato posted a first round 98 this morning (76th) and has moved up to a tie for 72nd with four holes left in her second round.
  • Senior Hannah Pignato is competing as an individual and is in 79th place with three holes to play in the second round after posting a 96 this morning (75th).

The FDU Invitational will wrap up the second round tomorrow morning at Crystal Springs Country Club before the third and final round commences at approximately 9 a.m. Stonehill will host a regular season tournament at its home course, Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton, Massachusetts, for the first time this spring with the Skyhawk Senior Showdown with Merrimack College and Bryant University on Thursday at noon.
