Hidalgo 78 is lowest round of the day

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (October 1, 2023) – The Stonehill College women's golf team closed out play at the Navy Fall Invitational on Sunday, hosted on the 6,084-yard, par-72 layout at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club.

Stonehill, playing with a lineup of four freshmen and one sophomore, turned in a 332 team score today to finish 14th overall with a two-day score of 660 (328-332). Freshman Helen Brodahl was the Skyhawks top overall finisher, tied for 48th after her 83 today resulted in a two-day score of 163 (80-83). She finished strong with a three-over-par 39 on the front nine (having started on the 13th hole today), including a birdie on the par-five ninth hole. Brodahl finished the tournament with a team-high 20 pars to rank 24th in the field.

Classmate Sydney Hidalgo carded the lowest round of the day for Stonehill with a season-best 78 that saw her move 15 spots up the individual leaderboard to 70th (93-78=171). She recorded a birdie on the par-five third hole and totaled 12 pars, including seven on the back nine to shoot two-over-on the stretch.

Host Navy won the team title with a two-day score of 607 (302-305), winning its home event by six shots over Towson University (305-308=613), while Howard University moved five spots on the team leaderboard to third after notching the lowest team score of the tournament today at 302 for a two-round score of 620 (318-302). Navy's Mara Hirtle took individual medalist honors with a two-over-par two round score of 146 after carding a one-under-par 71 today to move up six spots up the leaderboard. She finished a stroke in front of Towson's Madison Barber (72-75=147).

  • Freshman Carol Pignato finished tied for 63rd overall at 168 after her 92 today followed up a season-best 76 on Saturday.
  • Sophomore Jaelyn DeBoise finished two strokes behind Pignato, tied for 68th at 170 after trimming two shots off her Saturday score with an 84 this afternoon, including a birdie on the par-five ninth hole.
  • Freshman Kenna Roman rounded out the Skyhawks tied for 72nd after an 87 today saw her finish with a two-day score of 173.

Stonehill returns to action next Monday and Tuesday, October 9-10, when it competes at the Quinnipiac Classic, hosted by Quinnipiac University, at The Farms Country Club in Wallingford, Connecticut.
