Brodahl Leads Women's Golf on First Day of BC’s Red Bandanna Intercollegiate

Portland, Oregon, freshman cards pair of rounds in the 70s to enter final round tied for 18th

CANTON, Mass. (September 25, 2023) – Stonehill College freshman Helen Brodahl carded two rounds in the 70s to lead the way through two rounds after the first day of the Red Bandanna Intercollegiate, hosted by Boston College, at the 6,137-yard, par-72 layout at Blue Hills Country Club today.

Brodahl fired in three of her five birdies on the day in the morning's first round on her way to a season-best four-over-par 76 to sit tied for 17th heading to this afternoon's second round. She followed up her morning round with a five-over-par 77 this afternoon, adding two more birdies to rank eighth in the field after two rounds with five total birdies. She posted a 4.75 scoring average on the course's four par-fives for a combined score to par of two-under-par.

Brodahl, who started her two rounds today on the par-three 16th hole, recorded birdies on the par-five 18th, par-four sixth and par-five ninth hole. She followed that up with birdies this afternoon on the par-four third and par-five 12th on her way to a nine-over-par score of 153 heading into Tuesday's third and final round.

Stonehill is tied for 16th with a 660 team score (332-328) after two rounds. Host Boston College leads the team standings at 595 (297-298) to lead Sacred Heart University (305-295=600) by five strokes. Long Island University's Emily Byrne holds the individual medalist lead by two strokes at even par 144 (74-70), posting one of just two rounds under par for the day. She leads Canice Screene of Boston College (73-73=146) by two shots, while Ashley Lafontaine from Elon College registered the low round of the day with a four-under-par 68 in this afternoon's second round.

  • Four of Stonehill's five golfers competing this week are freshmen, with Sydney Hidalgo following Brodahl in a tie for 68th at 164 (82-82=164), notching three birdies over her two rounds on the par-four tenth hole in the first round, and then the par-five eighth and par-three 16th in the afternoon.
  • Freshman Carol Pignato is tied for 80th after a two-round score of 171 (85-86), highlighted by finishing her morning round with back-to-back birdies on the par-four 15th and par-three 16th over her final three holes after starting her round on the 18th hole.
  • Freshman Kenna Roman is 84th after a day one score of 173 (90-83), carving seven shots off her first round this afternoon for a season-low score and posting three birdies over the course of her day. She birdied the par-four fifth hole in both rounds today, adding a second birdie this afternoon on the par-four second hole.
  • Senior co-captain Hannah Pignato rounded out Stonehill's entries today at 187 (89-98) in a tie for 89th overall.
