Pignato Cards Season-Low 76 to Lead Women's Golf in Navy Fall Invite First Round

Foxboro, Massachusetts, freshman tied for 12th after first round to lead Skyhawks

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (September 30, 2023) – Freshman Carol Pignato carded a season-low 76 to lead the way for the Stonehill College women's golf team in the first round of the Navy Fall Invitational, hosted on the 6,084-yard, par-72 layout at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club today.

Pignato is tied for 12th in the field of 88 golfers after recording a pair of birdies on the par-four 11th hole and par-three 17th as she shot even-par 36 on the back nine – her opening nine of the day. She totaled ten pars on the day and is ranked fourth in the field on par-four scoring at 4.10, shooting one-over-par on the ten par fours on the course.

Pignato leads a Stonehill lineup consisting of four freshmen and one sophomore that posted a 328-team score and is tied for 12th in the team standings after the first day. Host Navy leads at 302, three strokes better than Towson University (305) and four lower than Hofstra University (306). The Skyhawks are tied for 12th with Monmouth University and will enter Sunday's final round within ten shots of eighth place Howard University (318).

Towson's Madison Barber leads the individual leaderboard after an even-par first round of 72. She leads a group of five golfers tied for second at two-over-par 74.

  • Freshman Helen Brodahl posted 12 pars on her way to an opening round 80. She shot four-over-par 40 on both the front and back nine and is tied for 41st overall. Her 12 pars are tied for fifth in the field and is tied for ninth in par-four scoring at 4.20 – shooting two-over-par on those ten holes for the day.
  • Sophomore Jaelyn DeBoise is the lone upperclass player in the Stonehill lineup and is tied for 66th, along with freshman Kenna Roman, after first round scores of 86. DeBoise birdied the par-four 16th hole, while Roman carded a birdie on the par-five 14th.
  • Freshman Sydney Hidalgo rounds out the Stonehill lineup and is tied for 85th with a first round 93.
