Brodahl Leads Women's Golf at Lehigh Invitational First Round

Portland, Oregon freshman tied for seventh after opening round 76

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (October 23, 2023) – Freshman Helen Brodahl carded a first season-low matching four-over-par 76 to lead Stonehill College in the first round of the Lehigh Invitational, hosted on the 6,012-yard, par-72 layout at Saucon Valley Country Club's Grace Course today.

Brodahl posted a pair of birdies over the course of her round with an even par 36 on the front nine on her way to the four-over par total. She birdied the par-5 fourth hole and par-3 11th on her way to the season-low matching round. Brodahl is tied for seventh in the field of 90 golfers and is three shots off the lead heading to Tuesday's second and final round. UAlbany's Mariel Tee and Julia Towne of Fairfield University share the lead for medalist honors with one-over-par 73s today.

Brodahl shares the tournament lead in par-three scoring after playing the course's four par-threes at one under par, while shooting one under par on the four par-fives. Her 11 pars today is one off the tournament lead.

Fellow Northeast Conference member Howard University is at the top of the team leaderboard with a first round 308 – three shots in front of FDU of the NEC (311) and Fairfield (311). Stonehill is in 14th place after day one with a 335-team score, leading La Salle University by 12 shots and Le Moyne College from the NEC by 37. The Skyhawks enter Tuesday's second round within ten shots of cracking the top ten, one shot behind Bethune-Cookman College (334) and College of the Holy Cross (334) and two strokes behind Merrimack College (333).

  • Freshman Kenna Roman posted a round of 83 and is tied for 41st overall. She also birdied the par-5 fourth hole.
  • Freshman Sydney Hidalgo is tied for 53rd after a first round score of 85. She recorded a birdie on the par-4 seventh hole and shot four-over-par 40 on the front nine.
  • Freshman Carol Pignato shot a first round 91 and is 77th overall.
  • Junior Mollie Thomas and sophomore Jaelyn DeBoise rounded out the Skyhawks on Monday. Thomas, competing as an individual, posted a 94 in her first round of the season and is in 83rd place, while DeBoise is tied for 84th after a first round 95.
