Women's Track and Field Shines On Day One Of NE10 Championships; Eight Earn All-Conference

EASTON, Mass. (May 6, 2022)- Stonehill College women's track and field wrapped up day one at the Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in second place (58 points) with only Southern New Hampshire ahead of the Skyhawks (62 points). Overall on the day, eight different Stonehill student-athletes garnered All-Conference honors. 

Highlights:

  • In the hammer throw, freshman thrower, Madison Gunderway set a new personal best when she set a Stonehill freshman record with a second-place toss of 44.68 meters. Her strong performance gave Stonehill eight points on the day. With her career-high throw, Gunderway earned All-Conference honors and now has the third-highest mark in the NE10. Senior, Krista Stracqualursi also competed in the hammer throw and finished in the top-10 (10th) at 35.36 meters. 
  • Abigail Larsson notched a second-place finish in the pole vault with a career-high leap of 3.31 meters in which she earned All-Conference and gave Stonehill a clutch eight points on the day. Right behind Larsson was Haley Lightbody at 3.21 meters which also gave her All-Conference honors and earned six points for the Skyhawks. 
  • Continuing the trend of All-Conference for Stonehill, Isabelle Angelini finished third in the javelin with a throw of 34.88 meters. Behind Angelini was Kaley Enright with a fourth-place finish (34.88 meters). Angelini and Enright combined to give the Skyhawks 11 points (Angelini-six points and Enright-five points). 
  • Rounding out Stonehill's All-Conference honors was the 4x800 relay team that consisted of Jillian HowardJenna FrenchCaroline Surrette, and Emma Lawrence. Despite Adelphi pulling away at the end, Lawrence made a great late sprint to the finish and was .58 seconds off the winner while earning All-Conference honors for the four runners. 

Other Performances:

  • Kaytlin Encarnacao ran in the 400-meter preliminaries and crossed the finish line in third place with a personal-best time of 58.09 seconds. With her third-place finish, Encarnacao qualified for tomorrow's 400-meter final.
  • In the 800-meter preliminary, Stonehill saw two runners qualify for the final tomorrow. Both Lawrence and Claire Mason secured spots in the final with fourth (2:19.51) and eighth (2:22.38) place finishes respectively. Lawrence also set a new personal record with her fourth-place time. 
  • Casey Gannon ended up qualifying for tomorrow's final in the 400-meter hurdles when she posted a time of 1:05.44 which was good for fifth place in today's preliminary. 
  • Stonehill's final qualifier for Friday's finals was Madison Rousseau who finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.68 seconds. 
  • The 1500-meter saw three Stonehill runners finish within the top-10 with Howard leading the way in fourth at 4:43.35. Not far behind Howard was Victoria Lombardi in fifth with a career-best time of 4:49.56 and rounding out the top-10 for the Skyhawks was Mason with a sixth-place finish at 4:49.56. With the three runners finishing in their respective places, they generated a total of 12 points (Howard-five points, Lombardi-four points, and Mason-three points) on the day for the purple and white. 
  • Rebecca Erhard and Isabella Kennedy rounded out the top-10 finishes on the day in the 10,000-meter run. Erhard gave the Skyhawks five more points when she crossed the finish line in fourth place with a new personal-best time of 38:11.40. Shortly after, Kennedy finished in 10th when she also set a new personal best with a time of 42:02.97.

The NE10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships continue Saturday, with field events starting at 11 a.m., while the multi-events continue at 2 p.m., and then the track finals get underway at 3:30 p.m.
