Women's Track & Field Impresses At Sorlien Memorial Invite

KINGSTON, R.I. (January 15, 2022)- Stonehill College women's indoor track continued their indoor slate after traveling to URI for the Sorlien Memorial Invite Saturday. In today's meet, the squad finished in fourth place and saw four top-10 finishes on the afternoon led by Krista Stracqualursi. Stracqualursi tied her personal best in the shot put while also recording a top-10 finish in the event (eighth).

Highlights:

  • Stracqualursi continued her strong indoor season competing in the shot put when she tied her career-high throw of 12.27 meters. Her eighth-place finish continued her streak this season of finishing in the top-15 in shotput. Stracqualursi also competed in the weight throw where she tossed a career-high 12.23 meters for a top-20 finish (20th).
  • Victoria Lombardi made her indoor track debut in the 3000-meter race and posted a time of 10:55.96 which resulted in an eighth-place finish. 
  • Kaytlin Encarnacao competed in the 400-meter for the second time this season and posted a solid time of 1:01.76 for the seventh-place finish for the Skyhawks. Encarnacao so far this season has not finished below the top-10 in the 400-meter race. 
  • Reigning NE10 Rookie of the Week, Meghan Sambrook raced in the 800-meter race for the first time in her collegiate career and made a strong impression. Sambrook ran a 2:30.93 for an eighth-place finish. In each event she has competed in so far this season, Sambrook has finished within the top-10. 

Other Performances:

  • Casey Gannon recorded a top-15 mark in the 200-meter race with a time of 27.36 for a 14th place finish. In both times she's raced in the 200-meter this season, she finished 14th place. 
  • Along with Gannon in the 200-meter, Abigail CreamerSavanna Macaluso, and Mia LaPietra all also competed in the race and posted times of 28.80, 28.87, and 30.55.
  • Meanwhile in the mile run, sophomore Caitlin Swanson made her collegiate indoor track debut with a time of 5:40.89 (22nd).
  • Madison Gunderway also competed in the weight throw with Stracqualursi and posted an 18th place finish with a toss of 12.39 meters.
