Women's Track Wrap Up Final Day Of New England Indoor Championship; Encarnacao Earns All-New England

ROXBURY, Mass. (February 5, 2022)-The Stonehill College women's track and field team concluded their weekend at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Indoor Track & Field Championship as the squad finished in 13th place while also seeing Kaytlin Encarnacao earn All-New England honors in the 400-meter finals. To earn All-New England status, student-athletes needed to record a top-eight finish in their respective events.

Highlights:

  • After qualifying yesterday in the 400-meter prelims with a time of 58.83 seconds, Encarnacao finished fourth and topped her qualifying time with a new personal record of 58.16 seconds. With her strong time, Encarnacao earned All-New England status while also having finished within the top-10 each time she has competed in the 400-meter race this season. 
  • In the 60-meter hurdles prelims, the Skyhawks saw four runners place within the top-20. Casey Gannon led the way in ninth place (9.19 seconds) followed by Madison Rousseau in 13th place with a new personal best of 9.32 seconds.
  • Not far behind Rousseau were Savanna Macaluso in 14th place (9.34 seconds) and Abigail Creamer in 19th place with a time of 9.48 seconds. 
  • Jillian Howard had a strong outing in the 3k race when she crossed the finish line in 13th place with a time of 10:28.89. In each individual race she's competed in this season, Howard has finished no lower than the top-15. 

Other Performances:

  • For field events, Krista Stracqualursi partook in the shotput event and recorded a toss of 11.06 meters for a 15th place finish. Every time Straacqualursi has competed in the shotput, she has finished within the top-15 in each event this season. 
  • Stonehill's 4x400 meter relay collected an eighth-place finish with a time of 4:04.28. Representing the Skyhawks in the relay were Gannon (1:01.8), Meghan Sambrook (1:02.0), Encarnacao (58.8), and Ashley Warren (1:01.6). 
  • Finally, in the distance medley, Stonehill finished in eighth-place with a collective time of 13:23.20. Erin Johnston, Warren,  Caitlin Swanson, and Rebecca Erhard all competed in the event for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill is back in action next Saturday, February 11 when they head to Boston University for the David Hemery Valentine Invite.
