Women's Track and Field Posts Strong Showing At Holy Cross Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass. (April 23, 2022)- The Stonehill College women's track and field team competed at the Holy Cross Invitational Saturday, and the squad posted four top-five finishes led by Casey Gannon's second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. 

Highlights:

  • In the 400-meter hurdles, Gannon crossed the finish line at a season-best, 1:04.84. It marked the third time during the outdoor season Gannon finished within the top three of the 400-meter hurdles. She also currently holds the third-fastest mark in the Northeast-10 Conference
  • Victoria Lombardi set a new personal record in the 5,000-meter with a time of 17:56.00 (third). In both times she has competed in the event this year, Lombardi has posted a top-three finish each time. Lombardi's time is also third in the NE10. Jillian Callahan also partook in the 5,000-meter and recorded a top 10 finish (seventh) at 19:01.95. 
  • Jillian Howard also set a new career-best in the 1,500-meter with a third-place finish at (4:44.25). Each time she has competed in the 1,500-meters this outdoor season, Howard has finished within the top three. Her strong performance today puts her at third in the NE10 for the 1,500-meters. Also competing in the event and posting top-15 finishes were Caitlin Swanson (12th, 4:58.41-personal best) and Caroline Surrette (14th, 5:06.68). 
  • The 800-meter saw four top-15 finishes with Claire Mason leading the way with an eighth-place finish at 2:19.12). Just a couple of spots back in sixth was Emma Lawrence as she finished with a time of 2:19.70. Rounding out the top-15 for Stonehill in the 800-meter was Meghan Sambrook (11th) who set a personal best (2:23.05) and Jenna French with a 15th place finish (2:26.82).

Other Performances:

  • For field events, Haley Lightbody led the way with a seventh-place finish in the pole vault with a leap of 3.25 meters (10' 11.75"). Not far behind in 11th was Abigail Larsson as she reached a height of 3.05 meters (10' 0"). 
  • Krista Stracqualursi competed in three field events on the day and set a career-high in the hammer throw with a toss of 38.81 meters (21st). In the shot put, Stracqualursi notched an 11th place finish at 11.22 meters, and to wrap up her day, she collected an eighth-place finish in discus (37.50 meters). 
  • In the 100-meter hurdles, the Skyhawks placed four runners within the top-15. Abigail Creamer paced Stonehill when she crossed the finish line for seventh place (15.20, personal record). Gannon was only a few spots back in 10th (15.39) followed by, Savanna Macaluso at 12th (15.63, personal-best), and finally Madison Rousseau in 13th (15.70).
  • Rousseau also competed in the 100-meters where she set a personal record at 12.75 seconds for seventh place. Ashley Warren also posted a career-best time of 13.08 seconds (ninth place), and then Macaluso rounded out the runners for Stonehill in 13th place (13.36 seconds). 

Up Next:

Stonehill returns to action next Saturday, when it hosts its 13th Skyhawk Invitational at W.B. Mason Stadium, starting at 10 AM. The following weekend, the Skyhawks host the Northeast-10 Conference Championships at W.B. Mason Stadium on May 6-7.
