Three Skyhawks Finish In Top Five At Coaches Tribute Meet

KINGSTON, R.I (January 22, 2022)- After heading back to the University of Rhode Island (URI) for the Coaches Tribute Meet, the Stonehill College women's indoor track team saw three top-five finishes led by Kaytlin EncarnacaoCasey Gannon, and the 4,000-medley relay team of Jillian HowardMeghan SambrookCaroline Surrette, and Victoria Lombardi.

Highlights:

  • Encarnaco recorded a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter race with a time of 1:00.69. In each time she competed in the 400 meter this season, Encarnaco has recorded a top-10 finish each time. She also competed in the 200-meter race and posted a 14th place finish. In the 200 meters, she posted a time of 27.11 which is a new personal best topping her previous high of 27.46 set back in April.
  • In the 60-meter hurdles, Gannon raced to a fifth-place finish with a time of 9.23.  Each time Gannon has raced in the 60-meter hurdles, she has posted a top-10 finish each time. Not far behind was fellow Skyhawk, Madison Rousseau who finished in seventh at 9.55.
  • For the first time this season, the Skyhawks competed in the 4,000 medley relays with the group of Howard, Sambrook, Surrette, and Lombardi who ended up with a time of 13.18.08.
  • Krista Stracqualursi competed in the shot put again and had a toss of 11.82 meters. Her throw in today's event was good for a sixth-place which extended her streak of finishing within the top-15 each time she has thrown in the shot put. 

Other Performances:

  • Along with competing in the 4,000 meter medley relays, Howard also raced in the one-mile race for the first time this year and posted a strong time of 5:21.04 which resulted in a sixth-place finish.
  • In the field events, Abigail Larsson set a new season-high and tied her personal best in the pole vault with a height of 3.05 meters. She had previously recorded this mark back in May 2021. 
  • Continuing in the field events, two Skyhawks competed in the weight throw event, and two placed within the top-20. First, Madison Gunderway set a new personal best with a strong toss of 12.84 meters for a 13th place finish. Stracqualursi also competed in the weight throw and was not far behind in 19th with a throw of 11.80 meters.
  • Sambrook raced in the 500 meters race and she finished within the top-10 again this season. In the event, she ended up finishing seventh with a time of 1:24.29.
