Women's Track Finishes Fourth At UMass Lowell Invitational

LOWELL, Mass. (March 26, 2022)-The Stonehill College women's track and field team started their outdoor season Saturday at the UMass Lowell Invitational and came away with a fourth-place finish on the day. Leading the day for the Skyhawks was freshman, Madison Gunderway who took first in the hammer throw in her first time competing in the event for her collegiate career. 

Highlights:

  • In her only event on the day, Gunderway had a toss of 42.34 meters in her hammer throw debut. 
  • Krista Stracqualursi competed in shotput and took home second place when she set a new personal best with a throw of 12.87 meters. Kaley Enright also partook in shotput and finished eighth at 10.74 meters. 
  • For the triple jump, Stonehill took two of the four spots in the race when Abigail Creamer finished second at 10.57 meters which also is a career record for her. Whereas, Eileen Durgin came in fourth with a jump of 9.25 meters. 
  • Stonehill did most of their damage in the 800-meter race when five Skyhawks crossed the finish line including three who took spots second through fourth. Claire Mason led the Skyhawks in the event with her second-place finish of 2:21.16 and not far behind in third was Emma Lawrence with a personal record of 2:21.64. Meghan Sambrook came in right behind Lawrence with a career-best of 2:25.60. Other runners who competed in the event for the purple and white were Jenna French who finished in sixth place (2:29.85-personal best) and Ashley Warren in eighth place (2:37.79-personal best).

Other Performances:

  • During the 1500-meter, Jillian Howard took home second place with a time of 4:48.23, and shortly behind her was Swanson at 4:49.05 (fifth place). Victoria Lombardi rounded out the Skyhawks in the 1500-meter when she crossed the finish line in eighth place at 5:03.06.
  • Stonehill saw three runners with finishes in the 100-meter hurdles with Madison Rousseau leading the way in third place with a new career-best of 15.34 seconds. A couple of spots back in fifth was Creamer at 16.63 seconds and finally, Cassidy Becker was right behind Creamer at 16.67 seconds. 
  • Kaytlin Encarnacao competed in the 200-meter race and claimed third place with a time of 26.48 seconds. 
  • In the pole vault, Haley Lightbody competed for Stonehill and grabbed a top-five finish (fifth) with a leap of 2.95 meters.

Stonehill returns to action next Saturday, April 2 when they travel to Southern New Hampshire Univesity for the SNHU Spring Invitational.
