Women's Tennis Drops Conference Matchup to Sacred Heart Saturday Night

LAKEVILLE, Mass. (April 6, 2024) – The Stonehill College women's tennis team fell to Northeast Conference opponent Sacred Heart University, 7-0, Saturday night at the Lakeville Athletic Club. With the loss, the Skyhawks fall to 2-18 overall and 1-6 in conference play, while the Pioneers improve to 16-3 overall and 6-0 against conference opponents.

Highlights

  • The doubles pairing of sophomore Anneliese Beltran and first-year student Julie Holte picked up their team leading 12th doubles win of the season.
  • The duo of Beltran and Holte have won seven doubles matches in a row and eight of their last ten as a pairing.
  • Postgrad Vitalina Golod and senior Flavia Rambaldi led a quartet of double winners for the Pioneers.
  • Graduate student Ciara O'Toole and junior Aina Garriga also earned singles and doubles triumphs for Sacred Heart.
  • Senior Katsia Starastsenka and junior Olivia Kharkover rounded out the singles winners for the Pioneers on the night.

How It Happened

  • Golod and Rambaldi took the first match of the day at No. 2 doubles over first-year student Alice Brito do Rio and junior Jenna Gustafson6-0.
  • O'Toole and Garriga clinched the Pioneers' doubles point, playing to a 6-2 decision at No. 3 doubles over sophomore Camila Zuluaga Rodriguez and first-year student Madison Warren.
  • Beltran and Holte teamed up to defeat Starastsenka and senior Kim Fenton at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, to earn the Skyhawks' lone win of the day.
  • Despite dropping the match, Zuluaga Rodriguez battled O'Toole to three sets at No. 5 singles, eventually falling 2-6, 7-5, 4-10.  
  • Following the conclusion of doubles competition, the Pioneers swept Stonehill in singles play, eventually earning a 7-0 match victory over the Skyhawks.
