Women's Tennis Falls at Home to Assumption, 4-3

EASTON, Mass. (September 28, 2023) – The Stonehill College women's tennis battled strong but dropped a 4-3 decision to Assumption University at the Charles Watt Tennis Courts Thursday afternoon.  

Highlights

  • Sophomore Anneliese Beltran led the Skyhawks as a double winner for the first time this season against Assumption.
  • Beltran combined with first-year student Julie Holte at No. 1 doubles for the first win of the day before securing her first double-win of the season at No. 1 singles.
  • First-year student Madison Warren and senior Lindsay Macdonald earned their first and second singles wins of the year, respectively.

  • Beltran and Holte earned the lone victory for the Skyhawks in doubles competition as the Greyhounds would take a 1-0 lead in the match into singles play.
  • Warren would begin the singles portion of the day at No. 3 singles, not dropping a point first-year student Beren Vapur 6-0, 6-0, tying the match up at one apiece.
  • However, Assumption would regain its one-point advantage after junior Marissa Such fell at No. 6 singles to first-year student Carola Schaudinn.
  • MacDonald tied the match up at 2-2 with her three-set victory over first-year student Jette Weigelt at No. 5 singles.
  • Both sides would continue to trade points back-and-forth throughout the remainder of the match as Beltran would secure the final point for Stonehill at No. 1 singles, defeating first-year student Marie Knispel in straight sets 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
  • The match would come down to the final game left on the court at No. 2 singles as Holte went the distance with her opponent Caroline Mader but would fall short in the third set 10-6, resulting in the Greyhounds earning the 4-3 match victory.
