Women's Tennis Drops 7-0 Decision to Rhode Island

NEWPORT, R.I. (February 11, 2024) – The Stonehill College women's tennis team dropped a tough 7-0 decision on the road at the International Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I., to the University of Rhode Island on Sunday.

Highlights

  • Freshman Madison Warren highlighted the Skyhawks on the day. Despite falling in straight sets to the Rams' graduate student Nadia Rajan, Warren was able to force an extra game in set one of No. 2 singles.
  • Rajan was one of five double-winners on the afternoon for URI, including senior Valentina Cvackova, sophomore Sophie Herrman, first-year Steph Hylton, and sophomore Nikki Fernando.
  • Fernando teamed up with Rajan at No. 2 doubles, defeating sophomore Camila Zuluaga Rodriguez and freshman Alice Brito do Rio, 6-1, before taking down Rodriguez in straight sets at No. 4 singles.  
  • The Ram's pairing of Cvackova and Herrman earned the win at the No. 1 doubles slot over sophomore Anneliese Beltran and Warren before taking home respective victories at No. 1 and No. 3 singles.
  • Hylton rounded out the URI double-winners on the day, winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0 over senior Lindsay Macdonald.
