Women's Tennis Earns Conference Win Against Merrimack College, 5-2

Brito do Rio secured her first collegiate win at No. 4 singles. 

HAVERHILL, Mass. (February 24, 2024) – The Stonehill College women's tennis team earned a 5-2 match victory over Northeast Conference (NEC) foe Merrimack College Saturday afternoon.

Highlights

  • Stonehill swept Merrimack in doubles play to earn the first point of the conference matchup.
  • Sophomore Camila Zuluaga Rodriguez and junior Marissa Such took home a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles over sophomore Giulia Martins Cavalcante and freshman Kenzie Legg.
  • Sophomore Anneliese Beltran and first-year Julie Holte combined to earn their team-leading fifth doubles win of the year at the No. 1 slot.
  • Freshman Madison Warren won her second NCAA Division I match at No. 3 singles against senior Nikala Tuffanelli, 6-2, 6-2. 
  • Freshman Alice Brito do Rio secured her first collegiate win after battling sophomore Jordan Philips to a three-set, 7-5, 6-3, 10-6, victory at No. 4 singles.
  • Zuluaga Rodriguez clinched her double win on the day and the match victory for the Skyhawks at No. 5 singles. 
  • The sophomore out of Medellin, Colombia, took down Martins-Cavalcante, 6-3, 6-3, before junior Jenna Gustafson would add her second win of the season at No. 6 singles.
