Solorzano Valencia leads Skyhawks to 28th-straight NE10 regular season win

EASTON, Mass. (September 25, 2019) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 4 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, opened a key three match week with a 7-0 triumph over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action on Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Freshman Cristina Solorzano Valencia led Stonehill to its 28th-straight NE10 regular season win by picking up a pair of wins on the afternoon. She and senior Annelise Howick clinched the doubles point for the Skyhawks with their 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Solorzano Valencia followed that up with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles against American International College junior Meritxell Jimeno-Vicente.

Stonehill picked up two matches, including one singles point, by default and then freshman Steffi Antao provided the match-clinching fourth point with her 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles against AIC freshman Sophie Roberge. Senior Alexandra Vo and sophomores Emma Markaryan and Samantha Ormesher all added singles wins, with the latter two both winning without dropping a game at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Jimeno-Vicente and freshman Mikaela Johnson picked up a win at No. 1 doubles for American International, holding off Ormesher and junior Isabelle Porter, 7-5.

Stonehill (4-0, 4-0 NE10) is back in action on Saturday, when it opens a huge weekend at Le Moyne College, ranked tenth in the region, at 1:30 p.m. The Skyhawks come right back home on Sunday to host Adelphi University, ranked ninth in the region, at Watt Courts at noon. American International (0-7, 0-5 NE10) hosts Franklin Pierce University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
