Women's Tennis Rebounds at Franklin Pierce, 5-2


Solorzano Valencia helped clinch the doubles point for the Skyhawks and then provided the match-clinching point with her comeback win at No. 1 singles

Solorzano Valencia and Ray lead Skyhawks to NE10 win

RINDGE, N.H. (October 12, 2019) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 4 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region rankings, rebounded from a tough loss on Friday with a 5-2 victory at Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action this afternoon.

Senior Caroline Ray and freshman Cristina Solorzano Valencia led Stonehill to the win with singles and doubles points. Solorzano Valencia and senior Annelise Howick combined for a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles to clinch the doubles point for the Skyhawks after the two teams had split at No. 1 and 3 doubles. Solorzano Valencia followed the doubles win up with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 comeback win at No. 1 singles against Franklin Pierce postgrad Himani Mor that clinched the match win for Stonehill.

Ray and sophomore Emma Markaryan teamed up for a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles for Stonehill. Ray then added a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles against freshman Jillian Pagliuca. Sophomore Samantha Ormesher and freshman Lauren Jaegerhuber both cruised to singles wins for the Skyhawks at No. 4 and No. 6.

Freshman Liria Loria was a double-winner for Franklin Pierce. She opened by teaming up with Mor for a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles for the Ravens, and then added a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 comeback win at No. 2 singles against Stonehill junior Isabelle Porter, the 13th-ranked singles player in the East Region. Freshman Laura Alvarez Tello notched the Ravens second point with her three-set win at No. 3 singles.  

Stonehill (8-2, 8-1 NE10) is back in action on Monday, when it wraps up its NE10 schedule with a makeup match at Le Moyne College, ranked tenth in the region, at noon. The Skyhawks return home next Sunday, October 20, to host Bryant University for Senior Day at noon. Franklin Pierce (8-4, 5-4 NE10) visits Bates College tomorrow at 1 p.m.
