Eight from Women's Tennis Earn All-NE10 Honors


Vo has earned the sixth All-NE10 award of her career with first team honors at No. 2 singles for the third year.

NE10 Announces Women's Tennis All-Conference Teams and Postseason Awards

EASTON, Mass. (October 24, 2019) – Eight members of the Northeast-10 Conference regular season champion Stonehill College women's tennis team have earned All-NE10 honors for their performances during the fall NE10 season, the league office has announced.

All three of Stonehill's doubles pairings have earned All-NE10 honors, with four earning the honors for their singles play this fall. Freshmen Cristina Solorzano Valencia and Steffi Antao earned All-NE10 honors for both singles and doubles play, while also being named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team.

Antao, along with senior Alexandra Vo and sophomore Emma Markaryan all earned All-NE10 first team honors for singles, while Solorzano picked up second team honors for singles and doubles, along with doubles partner Annelise Howick. Antao, senior Caroline Ray, junior Isabelle Porter and sophomore Samantha Ormesher round out the Skyhawks All-NE10 performers with third team doubles honors.

All-NE10 honors are earned by student-athletes and doubles pairings based on their record against Conference opponents at a given flight, with a minimum number of matches that must be played in order to be eligible. NE10 Rookie awards and Coach of the Year are selected by a vote of the Conference's 11 head coaches.

Vo, ranked No. 15 in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region singles rankings, earns the sixth All-NE10 award of her outstanding Stonehill career with first team honors at No. 2 singles, giving her first team honors for the flight for the third time in her career. She earned second team honors at No. 2 singles and doubles, with Ormesher, last season and first team accolades at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles, with Howick, as a sophomore. The 2016 NE10 Rookie of the Year was also a first team All-NE10 performer at No. 2 singles as a freshman, while also being named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team.

Vo, who reached the quarterfinals of the USTA/ ITA Division II East Regional championship in September, has posted a 12-2 singles record this season, winning all eight of her NE10 matches to finish her career 40-0 in NE10 regular season singles matches. She won  all five of her matches at No. 3 singles this fall, while posting a 5-1 mark at No. 2. Vo has posted a 91-46 career record in singles and doubles play, including 52-15 for singles, to go with a 39-31 doubles mark, including 26-11 in the NE10.

Antao earns the first NE10 postseason awards of her career with her first team honors at No. 3 singles, third team honors at No. 3 doubles with Ray, and All-Rookie selection. She has posted a combined 18-6 record in singles and doubles play so far in her freshman season, posting a 10-3 singles record, including a 9-0 mark in the NE10, to go with an 8-3 doubles mark, including 4-1 in NE10 play. Antao and Ray have teamed up for a 5-2 record at No. 3 doubles this fall, including 4-1 in the NE10. Antao combined with Porter to reach the quarterfinals of the ITA East Regional Doubles Championship in September, before being edged by Solorzano Valencia and Howick.

Ray earns the second All-NE10 award of her career, both of which have been for No. 3 doubles, after her first team spot with former teammate Nicole Downey, '18 last fall. Ray has posted a 12-6 combined record this fall, adding a 4-1 singles record (3-0 NE10) to her 8-5 doubles mark with four different playing partners, including 7-2 in the NE10. She has posted a career record of 50-22 in singles and doubles play, including a 20-9 singles mark (14-1 NE10) and 30-13 doubles (20-2 NE10).

Markaryan earns All-NE10 first team singles honors for the second-straight year, earning the recognition at No. 4 singles this fall after collecting the award at No. 5 as a freshman. She has posted an 11-3 singles record this season, including 9-1 in the NE10. Markaryan also saw limited play in doubles, posting a 2-1 record, including 2-0 in the NE10. An NE10 All-Championship team selection as a freshman, Markaryan has now posted a career combined record of 29-11, including a 25-8 singles mark (19-1 NE10).

Solorzano Valencia is a second team All-NE10 performer at No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles, along with her playing partner, Howick, while also earning All-Rookie Team honors. Solorzano Valencia has made an immediate impact in her first collegiate season for Stonehill, posting a combined record of 27-7 in singles and doubles play, posting a 13-3 singles record, including 8-2 in the NE10, with a 14-4 doubles mark, including 8-2 in the NE10. She has earned NE10 Rookie of the Week honors three times and Player of the Week once this fall, having reached the quarterfinals of the ITA East Regional for singles and semifinals in doubles, along with Howick. Solorzano Valencia is 7-1 at No. 1 singles this fall, along with a 3-1 mark at No. 2. She and Howick have posted a 13-3 record together, including 7-1 in the NE10.

It marks the second All-NE10 award for Howick over her career, both coming in doubles play after earning first team honors at No. 2 doubles, along with Vo in 2017. Howick is 39-26 in doubles play over her career, including 20-8 in the NE10.

Ormesher and Porter round out Stonehill's All-NE10 performers with third team honors at No. 1 doubles. Porter has now collected four All-NE10 honors over her career, with her second doubles award after being named to the second team at No. 1 doubles a year ago. It's the third All-NE10 award for Ormesher overall and second in doubles after being named to the second team at No. 2 as a freshman, when she also garnered first team accolades at No. 3 singles and All-Rookie honors. The duo have combined for a 6-4 record this fall, including 6-2 in the NE10.

Porter, ranked No. 13 in the Oracle/ITA Division II East Regional singles rankings, has earned All-NE10 first team honors at No. 3 singles as a freshman, when she also collected All-Rookie honors. She has posted a 64-35 career record in singles and doubles play, including a 33-16 singles mark (19-5 NE10), with a 31-19 doubles record (18-8 NE10). Porter has reached the quarterfinals of the ITA East Region Championships twice over her career and doubles semifinals in 2017, advancing to the doubles quarters this fall with Antao.

Ormesher, the Most Outstanding Player at the 2018 NE10 Championships, has posted a career combined record of 37-25 in singles and doubles play. She has posted an 18-12 career singles mark, including 14-5 in the NE10, to go with a 19-13 doubles record, including 16-5 in the NE10. Ormesher has posted a 7-6 doubles record overall this fall, including 7-3 in the NE10, to go with a 6-5 singles mark, including 5-3 in the NE10.

Stonehill (10-3, 9-1 NE10), ranked No. 4 in the most recent Oracle/ITA Division II East Region rankings, clinched a share of its fourth-straight NE10 regular season championship, marking its tenth regular season title in program history overall, this fall. The Skyhawks are seeded third in this week's NE10 Tournament and are back in action tomorrow, when it visits second-seeded Southern New Hampshire University (11-1, 9-1 NE10) for a semifinal round match in Manchester, New Hampshire, at 1 p.m. The NE10 Championship match is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
