Skyhawks advance to Friday semifinal at #2 Southern N.H.

EASTON, Mass. (October 23, 2019) – Third-seeded Stonehill College, ranked No. 4 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II poll, advanced past sixth-seeded University of New Haven in first round action of the 2019 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Tennis Tournament at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Stonehill (10-3, 9-1 NE10) advances to Friday's NE10 semifinal round, where it will visit second-seeded Southern New Hampshire University (11-1, 9-1 NE10) at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks, defending NE10 Tournament Champions, will be looking to avenge its lone NE10 loss of the fall at SNHU and reach the NE10 Championship match for the sixth-straight year and 13th time in program history overall. New Haven, making its second-straight NE10 Tournament appearance and third overall, finishes its fall season with an 8-6 record overall, including 5-5 in the NE10.

Stonehill clinched the doubles point in quick order, with senior Annelise Howick and freshman Cristina Solorzano Valencia opening with a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles against New Haven's team of junior Stephanie Gonzales and sophomore Nicole Mika. Senior Caroline Ray and freshman Steffi Antao clinched the doubles point with their 6-2 decision at No. 3 against freshmen Katherine MacPhail and Alexa Orlando.

Junior Isabelle Porter returned to the lineup for Stonehill and rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles against New Haven junior Lilia Rodriguez for the Skyhawks second point.

Senior Alexandra Vo and sophomore Emma Markaryan followed with the two remaining points in quick succession to end the match. Markaryan registered a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at No. 5 singles against MacPhail, while Vo provided the match-clinching point with her 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles over Mika.
