Stonehill Uses Offensive Outburst To Defeat Greyhounds

Bolster nets a pair of goals to help Skyhawks tie season high in markers

EASTON, Mass. (September 27, 2011) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team scored three goals in the opening half en route to a 4-2 victory over Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Tuesday evening at Skyhawk Field.

Senior forward Mark Bolster (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett) led the Skyhawks offensively with two goals in the contest. Senior midfielder Ross McWilliams (Kingston, R.I./South Kingstown) and classmate Kevin Conti (Cohoes, N.Y./Shaker) also added a marker apiece.

McWilliams got Stonehill on the board first at 3:22 receiving a beautiful long ball from teammate Christopher Agan (Niskayuna, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and chipping a shot over a charging Dylan Strachen (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) for a 1-0 lead.

Assumption wasted little time evening the contest as senior midfielder Scott Buckholz (Seymour, Conn./Seymour) headed home a goal behind Skyhawks goalkeeper Adam Colella (Wilmington, Mass./St. John's Prep.) at the 6:20 mark. The goal was orchestrated off of a thrown in as Michael Agbortoko (Southbridge, Mass./Southbridge) fed teammate Luke Whelan (New Fairfield, Conn./Immaculate) with a ball on the left corner of the box that the junior back flicked directly to Buckholz who finished with a header just inside the right post.

At 24:05, Conti reclaimed the lead for Stonehill one-timing a pass from Michael White (Lisbon, N.H./Lisbon Regional) into the lower right corner of the net for a 2-1 advantage.

Bolster pushed the gap to 3-1 at 38:55 sniping home a shot past Strachen on a breakaway opportunity set up by teammate Stephen Hugel (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) on a cross over Assumption's back line.

Bolster struck again at 55:05 for his second goal of the contest and fourth of the year on a wide open look inside the box. Kevin Gilmartin (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock) jumpstarted the play feeding White with a through ball on the right flank. After White corralled the ball and dribbled into the scoring area, the senior forward fed Bolster on the other half of the box for the easy look and a 4-1 score.

The Greyhounds cut the lead in half at 61:12 converting one of their six corner kicks as Kieron Hillery (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield) headed home Tom Carroll's (Belford, N.J./Middletown North) cross into the top left corner of the net to make it 4-2.

Colella made one save in net to improve to 3-2-0 on the season. Strachen turned away five shots while the Greyhounds' defense notched two team saves.

Stonehill outshot Assumption, 20-10, in the game and won the corners matchup, 9-6.
