Skyhawks fall to 1-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play

EASTON, Mass. (September 21, 2011) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team was edged by Southern New Hampshire University, 2-1, in double-overtime on Wednesday evening at Skyhawk Field in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action.

Junior forward Chris Tsonis (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) buried the game-winner at 103:28 heading a shot over Stonehill goalkeeper Adam Colella (Wilmington, Mass./Saint John's Prep.) for his team-leading sixth marker of the season. Freshman forward Chris Pereira (Ludlow, Mass./Ludlow) set up the game-winning tally chipping a ball over the Skyhawks defense directly to Tsonis who flicked it into the back of the net.

Trailing 1-0 in the second half, junior Anthony Campagnano (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) evened the contest at 1-1 off of a free kick. From about 22-yards out, Campagnano's shot struck the crossbar and caromed into the top left corner of the net for his third goal of the season.

Penmen senior back PJ Burnette (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) opened up the scoring at 33:30 heading home a corner kick from teammate Ruben Resendes (Fall River, Mass./Durfee) past Colella for his second tally of the season.

Dom DiMaggio (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) made two stops in net for Southern New Hampshire to improve to 1-0-0 on the season while Colella turned away three shots.

The Penmen outshot Stonehill, 21-11, and won the corners matchup, 7-1.

Stonehill (3-3, 1-1 NE-10) travels to Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, September 24 for a NE-10 contest starting at 7 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (4-2, 2-2 NE-10) hosts Le Moyne College on Saturday, September 24 at 4 p.m.
