Stonehill Drops 3-1 Decision To LIU-C.W. Post

BROOKEVILLE, N.Y. (September 17, 2011) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team was dealt a 3-1 loss, on the road, by LIU-C.W. Post in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers snapped the Skyhawks three-game winning streak while pushing their own mark to six-straight on the season.

Senior midfielder Ross McWilliams (Kingston, R.I./South Kingstown) put Stonehill on the scoreboard first in the 4th minute striking home a loose ball directly in front of the net past C.W. Post goalkeeper Marco Jorgensen (Copehagen, Denmark/Niels Brock) for a 1-0 lead.

Eirik Bjoernoe (Randaberg, Norway/Grode Skole) evened the score at 1-1 at 32:43 netting his first goal of the season on a penalty kick past Eric Schott (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy).

In the second half, Bjoernoe took advantage of another penalty kick opportunity depositing his second goal of the season into the lower left corner of the net by Schott for a 2-1 advantage.

Eivind Austobe (Stavanger, Norway/St. Svithun) added an insurance goal at 69:13 as the freshman forward curled a shot off a free kick into the right corner of the net to make it 3-1.

The Pioneers outshout the Skyhawks 21-13 overall and 10-4 in the first half. C.W. Post also compiled nine kills on the afternoon to Stonehill's five.

Schott made three saves in net for the Skyhawks while Jorgensen turned away one shot.

Stonehill (3-2, 1-0 NE-10) returns to action on Wednesday, September 21 at home in Northeast-10 Conference action versus Southern New Hampshire University, ranked #4 overall in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National poll, at Skyhawk Field at 4 p.m.
