WORCESTER, Mass. (November 26, 2017) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team saw four different goal scorers in a 4-1 victory over Bryn Athyn College Sunday afternoon at the Worcester Ice Center in Worcester, Massachusetts in the second round of the Steve L. Hoar Memorial Tournament, hosted by Becker College.
Stonehill (3-3-1) saw four different goal scorers including Shamus Maloney (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/Neponset River Valley Rats), Christopher Page (Winthrop, Massachusetts/Winthrop), Connor Jewett (Berlin, New Hampshire/NH Junior Monarchs – EHL Premier), and Kyle Woodruff (Brunswick, Maine/South Shore Kings - USPHL). Logan Stark (Newton, Massachusetts/Walpole Express - EHL) notched two assists in the win, while James Varney (Smithfield, Maine/Walpole Express – EHL Premier), Nicholas Godin (New London, New Hampshire/Tabor Academy) and Jack Scannell (Medfield, Massachusetts/Proctor Academy) also tallied helpers. Junior goaltender Billy Palmer (Cranston, Rhode Island/Boston Bandits - EHL Premier) recorded his 11th-career game with 40 or more saves, registering 40 for his third win of the season.
Bryn Athyn (4-4-0) saw Tanner Congdon record the lone goal, while Jimmy Lockamyeir notched the only assist and goaltender Landon Trutt tallied 35 saves.
Stonehill was able to get on board in the first few minutes of the game as Maloney capitalized on a loose puck and scored a short-handed goal at 6:02 for his fifth goal of the season. Page followed that up with his first goal of the season to extend the lead to two, 2-0. After the Skyhawks third successful faceoff won by Jewett, Page slapped a shot at the cage, which was saved by Trutt and then he ripped another shot that went in from a pass from Stark at 11:48.
The Lions killed its second penalty in the second frame, a minute before Stonehill would extend its lead to three, 3-0. The Skyhawks recorded back-to-back shots, as Stark recorded his second assist of the game and Varney also helped in the attack, as Jewett tallied his second goal of the season and seventh of his career. Stonehill had another man-advantage opportunity in the second period, but Bryn Athyn was able to skate away with only three shots given up.

In the third period, the Lions came off another penalty kill at 7:21 and this time, Bryn Athyn was successful in cutting the deficit to two, 3-1 with a goal by Congdon, his second of the season and an assist from Lockamyeir. The Skyhawks responded to the lone goal by the Lions with its fourth goal of the game from Woodruff, as he notched his first tally of season. Stonehill took the puck back down the ice after Bryn Athyn had a shot blocked by Woodruff and Godin was able to slap the dish at the cage, which was saved by Trutt. Stonehill reset and Woodruff got his first goal in the Purple and White with assists from Godin and Scannell putting a three-goal lead in the hands of the Skyhawks, 4-1.
Bryn Athyn held the shot advantage by the end of the game 41-39 and neither team was able to capitalize on a power play.
The Skyhawks travel to Shelton, Connecticut to battle non-conference foe Post University on Tuesday, November 28 for its first of three games at the SportsCenter of Connecticut with a puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
