WORCESTER, Mass. (February 2, 2018) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team was tripped up by Assumption College's offense, as the Greyhounds defeated the Skyhawks 3-0 at Buffone Arena Friday night in Northeast-10 Conference play.   

Stonehill (5-14-2, 3-7-1 NE10) saw junior goaltender Billy Palmer (Cranston, Rhode Island/Boston Bandits - EHL Premier) notch 46 saves in the loss, matching his career-high for the second time this season.

Assumption College (12-8-2, 8-5-1 NE10) saw Cam Laughlin tally two goals, while Brian Farrell registered the third goal. Dante Tomassini also had a two-point game with two assists, as Tommy Mahoney and Matt Damiello notched one helper each in the victory. Goaltender David Zulauf recorded 33 saves in his eighth win of the season.

Neither team was able to get a shot off until the Greyhounds were able to pick up a 1-0 lead with a goal from Laughlin at 1:21 in the first period. Stonehill was able to hold off Assumption, as the Skyhawks were a man down from a penalty at 8:23, but the Greyhounds were able to extend their lead to two, 2-0, with a power play goal at 16:52 from Farrell. The Skyhawks closed the period with a 3-2 shot advantage, including one during a power play that started at 19:22 and Stonehill was unsuccessful in connecting on passes to cut the lead.

Assumption held the shot advantage again in the second frame, 19-13, as the Greyhounds had three power play attempts to score over the two for the Skyhawks.

Shots were even in the third period, 12-12, when Assumption won a faceoff at 10:23 and controlled the puck as Laughlin collected the pass from Damelio who dished it to Tomassini for a one-timer past Palmer for his second goal of the game at 11:39 and second power play tally of the game. Stonehill drew one more power play before time elapsed, but was unable to link passes, as Assumption took game two, 3-0.

Stonehill hosts the Greyhounds in the third game of the season in Foxboro, Massachusetts at the Foxboro Sports Center with a 5:10 p.m. opening faceoff.
