Ice Hockey Skates to 3-3 Draw in Conference Opener

Maloney has first two-goal game as a Skyhawk

FOXBORO, Mass. (November 7, 2017) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team skated to a 3-3 draw over Northeast-10 Conference rival Assumption College Tuesday night at the Foxboro Sports Center in their conference and home opener.  

For Stonehill, (0-1-1, 0-0-1 NE10) junior Shamus Maloney (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/Neponset River Valley Rats) tallied his-first two collegiate goals as a Skyhawk, while Jack Hall (Shelburne, Vermont/Proctor Academy) recorded his first of the season and eighth of his career. Christopher Page (Winthrop, Massachusetts/Winthrop) assisted Hall's goal, while Logan Stark (Newton, Massachusetts/Walpole Express - EHL) notched his first helper on Maloney's first goal and Connor Tedesco (New London, New Hampshire/Tabor Academy) and Brendan White (North Reading, Massachusetts/Kimball Union Academy) tallied the assists in his second goal.

Assumption (1-3-1, 0-0-1 NE10) saw Cam Laughlin notch two goals, while Peter McDonagh recorded the third tally. Matt Damelio and Tommy Mahoney each chipped in one assist, as Dante Tomassini and Ryan Bunyon added two helpers each.

Assumption got on board in the first period with five minutes on the clock, as Damelio ripped a shot at Billy Palmer (Cranston, Rhode Island/Boston Bandits – EHL Premier) in the cage, and Laughlin crashed the zone and collected the rebound for a 1-0 advantage.


Page tallied his first assist of the season

Stonehill responded right away in the second period, 15 seconds into the frame with the equalizer from Hall in a man-advantage opportunity, putting the Skyhawks on the board with its first power play goal of the season, 1-1. The Greyhounds would not go down without a fight as Laughlin launched a shot right after the end of a power play to put Assumption back in the lead, six minutes into the second period, 2-1. Stonehill saw a three-shot series from Maloney, Stark, and Sean Conley (Cheektowaga, New York/Buffalo Jr. Sabres - TIEHL), which sparked the drive to score the second equalizer of the game at 15:54. 2-2.   

About 30 seconds after a power play, Assumption found McDonagh in front of the net for the Greyhounds' third lead of the game, 3-2. Stonehill once again was able to respond with another tie as Maloney kept the Skyhawks' within reach of a win with a tally at 18:23 in the third period.

Neither team was able to an offensive play going in overtime as the Skyhawks tallied one shot to the Greyhound's four, totaling 30 for each team by the end of the game.

Stonehill continues play at home with another NE10 Conference matchup against Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday, November 14 with a  7:00 p.m. puck drop at the Foxboro Sports Center.
