FOXBORO, Mass. (December 5, 2017) – The Stonehill College ice hockey team fell in a Northeast-10 Conference overtime battle against Saint Michael's College, 4-3, Tuesday night at Foxboro Sports Center.
Stonehill (3-4-1, 2-2-1 NE10) saw three different goal scorers including Shamus Maloney (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/Neponset River Valley Rats), Cameron Wright (West Dummerston, Vermont/Sprignfield Pics – USPHL Premier), and Sean Conley (Cheektowaga, New York/Buffalo Jr. Sabres - TIEHL). Wright also notched two assists, as Michael Seibold (Reading, Massachusetts/Williston Northampton), Nick Schofield (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Williston Northampton), Brandan White (North Reading, Massachusetts/Kimball Union Academy), and Maloney each registered one helper each. Junior goaltender Billy Palmer (Cranston, Rhode Island/Boston Bandits – EHL Premier) tallied 44 saves in the battle, a season best, as the Skyhawks capitalized on two of three power plays in the game.
Saint Michael's (4-3-1, 3-1-0 NE10) saw Eric Salzillo, Keegan Finn, and Noah Muller notch a tally each, while Andrew Olevitz recorded the game-winning goal 36 seconds into overtime. Sam D'Antuono recorded two assists, as Muller, Nathan Foice, Matt McGlynn, Thomas, Flack, and Sam Finklestein each notched one helper each. Chris Johnson stopped 20 pucks in the victory, as the Purple Knights were 2-for-8 in power plays sliding them to the top of the conference leaderboard with six points.
The Purple Knights put two goals on the board in the first period with tallies one minute and 48 seconds apart from eachother. Salzillo notched his third goal of the season at 9:08 with an assist from D'Antuono, while Finn put up his first of the season at 10:48 with helpers from Miller and McGlynn. The second goal came only 22 seconds after the start of a power play for Saint Michael's.
Stonehill cut the deficit to one, 2-1 with Conley's first-collegiate goal at 12:17 after back-to-back shots by White that were blocked and then saved by Johnson. Schofield and Wright assisted in the tally, as the Purple Knights out shot the Skyhawks at the end of the frame, 18-10.

After 16 minus of back and forth play, Stonehill was able to capitalize on its second power play opportunity with Maloney's seventh-season goal with assists from Wright and Seibold. Stonehill went on a three-shot run before the equalizer at 16:36 in the second period. Wright picked up his third point of the game and gave Stonehill its' first lead of the game, 3-2, at 18:24 for the Skyhawks second power play goal with assists from White and Maloney. The Skyhawks kept the Purple Knights from tying up the game with a more evenly distributed shot advantage in favor of Saint Michael's again, 12-11.
With a man advantage heading into the third period, the Purple Knights tied the game at three, 3-3, at 2:30 with Muller's first goal of the season with passes from Flack and Foice. Stonehill killed two penalties in the third frame, as Saint Michael's offense controlled a big part of the period with 17 shots to two, in favor of the Purple Knights.
Both teams were at even strength at the start of the overtime period, but Saint Michael's took advantage stealing the puck from Stonehill and taking it to their offensive third, as Olevitz netted his fifth of the season with help from Finkelstein and D'Antuono.
The Skyhawks travel to Middletown, Connecticut on Saturday, December 9 for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference matchup against Wesleyan College at the Spurrier-Snyder Rink.
