EASTON, Mass. (August 22, 2018) – Junior goaltender Billy Palmer (Cranston, Rhode Island/Boston Bandits-EHL Premier) and sophomore goaltender Matthew Schoen (Tolland, Connecticut/Phillips Academy) were tabbed as American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All American Scholars Program, as announced by the organization last week.

To be eligible for the award, student-athletes needed to hold a minimum 3.6 grade-point average each semester.

A total of 821 Division II-III men and women were awarded the honor, as 489 Division I recipients earned the recognition last week for a total of 1,310, 49 more than last year.

The junior wrapped up the season with a 3.26 goals against average, letting up 67 goals, and posting a .907 save percentage. He totaled 650 saves between the pipes with a record of 5-13-2, totaling 24-30-9 over his three years.

Throughout the NE10, Palmer ranked first in saves (650), games started (20), and played (21), eighth in goals against average (3.26) and save percentage (.907), and ninth in goals against (67).

The junior has been named to the NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and Athletic Director's Honor Roll, while also being recognized by the Conference twice on the NE10 Academic All-Conference team. He was also tabbed 2018 NE10 Winter Scholar Excellence Award Winner during the winter and was the second Stonehill men's ice hockey student-athlete to earn the honor. The Cranston, Rhode Island native also earned his second Division II Athletic Director's Association Academic Achievement Award this year. During his freshman year, the 2015 graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School assisted the team to its second NE10 Championship in program history, was named to the NE10 All-Conference second team, and was NE10 Rookie of the Year.

Schoen, who majors in finance, started and played in his four first contests of his collegiate career last year. The sophomore gave up 15 goals for a 4.32 goals against average, while combining for 128 saves with a .895 save percentage. He finished the season with a 1-3-0 record, where he won his first collegiate game with a 4-1 victory over Post University totaling 38 saves.

The 2016 graduate of Tolland High School, Schoen has been named to the NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and Athletic Director's Honor Roll over his two seasons in the Purple & White. Last season he was also named as the NE10 Goaltender of the Week after picking up his first win in November.

Stonehill posted 7-16-2 overall record, while finishing fifth in the NE10 Conference with a mark of 5-9-1, just shyly missing out on playoffs.
