EASTON, Mass. (October 17, 2022) – Stonehill College sophomore quarterback Ashur Carraha has earned Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week honors for the second time over the last three weeks the Conference announced today.

Carraha shined yet again, winning the weekly recognition following Stonehill's second-straight game, as the Skyhawks returned to action after a bye at reigning NEC Champions Sacred Heart University on Saturday. Despite the 40-27 setback to the Pioneers, Carraha threw three touchdown passes as he completed 18-of-28 passes (64.3-percent) for 221 yards without an interception to finish with a 165.9 pass efficiency rating and post his second 200-yard passing game of the season. He is the second Stonehill player to earn Rookie of the Week status from the NEC, joining classmate Jarel Washington who earned the award after week one.

Carraha connected with junior Tom Comella, who joined Carraha with NEC Prime Performer status as well, for a 46-yard touchdown pass to put Stonehill on the scoreboard 1:55 into the second quarter that pulled the Skyhawks back within 10-7. He also added two more touchdown strikes in the second half as Stonehill aimed to make a comeback of four and 17 yards, finishing the second half 13-for-17 (76.4%) for 160 yards passing.

He has completed 60-of-99 passes (60.6%) for 810 yards and an NEC-leading ten touchdowns, with just two interceptions. Carraha passed for a season-high 254 yards on 21-of-42 attempts and a touchdown in the Skyhawks season-opening 33-30 double-overtime win at Bloomsburg (Pa.) University and fired a season-best four touchdown passes in the week two 76-0 triumph over Post University, with four of his nine completions finding the end zone.

Comella earned NEC Prime Performer status for the first time after recording a career-high 164 all-purpose yards at Sacred Heart on Saturday with two touchdowns. He rushed the ball a career-high 13 times for a career-best 96 yards and one score to go with his touchdown reception, finishing with a career-high 68 receiving yards on three catches. In addition to his 46-yard touchdown catch and run from Carraha, he added a two-yard touchdown run with 2:16 remaining in the fourth quarter that pulled Stonehill back within two scores to set up an on-side kick chance

Stonehill (3-1, 1-1 NEC) is back in action on Saturday, when it visits Saint Francis (Pa.) University for an NEC clash that will be broadcast live via ESPN3 as part of the NEC Game of the Week package from Loretto, Pennsylvania, at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks return to W.B. Mason Stadium next Saturday, October 29, to host Merrimack College for an NEC matchup as part of Homecoming Weekend at the College at 1 p.m.
