Movin' On Up!
Stonehill College announced in early April that it had accepted an invitation to join the NCAA Division I Northeast Conference (NEC), beginning a four-year Division I transition period to conclude in 2026. The Skyhawks entire set of 23 varsity programs will now compete in the NEC, with the exception of equestrian, women's ice hockey (NEWHA) and men's ice hockey (independant) starting this fall.

Weekly Honors
Stonehill junior placekicker Perry Shelbred and sophomore running back Jarel Washington both collected weekly accolades from the Northeast Conference following their efforts in last Saturday's 33-30 comeback win in double-overtime at Bloomsburg.  Shelbred scored 13 points as he converted four of five field goal attempts and his lone extra point try in helping Stonehill to the 33-30 double-overtime win. He delivered field goals from 24, 22, 37 and 31 yards for the Skyhawks, the latter of which came with 16-seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to knot the score and complete a comeback from an 11-point (27-16) deficit with under five minutes to play. Washington shined in his collegiate debut to collect his first NEC Rookie of the Week honor. He recorded 99 all-purpose yards, including 50 yards on 11 carries, and scored a pair of touchdowns down the stretch to key the Skyhawks comeback win. Washington collected a pass from sophomore quarterback Ashur Carraha near the sideline and raced 49 yards for a touchdown that pulled Stonehill back within three after the two-point conversion with 4:32 to play. He then clinched the Skyhawks win with a two-yard touchdown in double-overtime to end the game after Bloomsburg had scored a field goal on its second possession.

Polling Information
Stonehill debuted at No. 10 in this week's New England Football Journal Division I Top 16 rankings. The Skyhawks lead the NEC standings after the first week of the season as well, as the lone Northeast Conference member with a win over the first two weeks of the college football season.

About Last Week
Stonehill battled back from an 11-point fourth quarter deficit to claim a 33-30 triumph over Bloomsburg (Pa.) in a non-conference football matchup that kicked off the Skyhawks NCAA Division Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) era in Pennsylvania last Saturday. Sophomore running back Jarel Washington scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the Stonehill comeback in his collegiate debut, the first on a 49-yard toss and run from sophomore quarterback Ashur Carraha with 4:32 to play sparked the comeback and pulled the Skyhawks within three (27-24) after Carraha connected with sophomore Chris Domercant for the two point conversion, before ending the game with a two-yard touchdown scamper in the second overtime period.

Preseason Prognostications
Stonehill has been picked to finish eighth in the Northeast Conference preseason poll by the league's head coaches. Reigning NEC Champions Sacred Heart were picked to repeat this fall, earning five first place votes, followed by Duquesne in second with the remaining three first place votes. Following the Dukes are Saint Francis (Pa.) in third, Central Connecticut State in fourth, Merrimack fifth,  and then LIU and Wagner tied for sixth.

Aye, Aye, Captains
Stonehill head coach Eli Gardner and his coaching staff have named five captains for its inaugural Division I FCS season. Offensive linemen Joe Bastante and Thomas Walsh, along with tight end Cam Boes and defensive backs Masyn Lorick and Kevin Porch were voted to lead the Skyhawks for the 2022 season.

Bright Lights, Big City
Stonehill will play two games this fall as part of the NEC's Game of the Week package on ESPN3. The Skyhawks inaugural NEC contest when it hosts Duquesne at W.B. Mason Stadium will be streamed live on the ESPN3 platform at noon, as well as three weeks late at Saint Francis (Pa.) in Loretto, Pennsylvania, at 1 p.m.

Fans and media members of Stonehill athletics now have three social media outlets to get updates on all 20 varsity programs. The department's Facebook page is www.facebook.com/stonehillskyhawks, and you can also follow @GoStonehill on Twitter and "StonehillSkyhawks" on Instagram. On Deck
Stonehill will have two consecutive bye weeks before making their Northeast Conference debut against Duquesne here at W.B. Mason Stadium on Saturday, October 1, at noon in a game that will be broadcast live as part of the NEC's Game of the Week package on ESPN 3.
