Stonehill Rolls Out Enhanced Game Day Experience at W.B. Mason Stadium for Family Weekend

Skyhawks host Duquesne as part of Family Weekend in game broadcast on ESPN3 on Saturday at noon

EASTON, Mass. (September 28, 2022) – Stonehill College is excited to announce an expanded game day experience at W.B. Mason Stadium starting with Saturday's Family Weekend contest between the Skyhawks football program and Duquesne University, that will be broadcast via ESPN3 as part of the Northeast Conference's "Game of the Week" package, at noon.

"We are thrilled to continue to roll out some exciting additions for our Stonehill Skyhawk fans to make their gameday experience at W.B. Mason Stadium a memorable one," said Dean O'Keefe, '94, Vice President/Director of Athletics at the College. "The opening of our Shovel Town Brewing Company Beer Garden, the addition of food trucks, along with the concession area that will bring an outstanding food and drink option to our fans are all part of the College embracing the elevation to NCAA Division I status. We hope the new online ticketing will also serve as a tremendous benefit to fans of not just our football team, but basketball and ice hockey to ease their arrival to watch their Skyhawk teams."

Saturday will be a historic Family Weekend matchup for Stonehill as the football team will make its awaited NEC debut against Duquesne at W.B. Mason Stadium. The College accepted an invitation to join the NEC in April and started its transition to full NCAA Division I status on July 1. The Skyhawks opened their 2022 season, its first as an NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FBS) member, with a pair of wins at Bloomsburg (Pa.) University (33-30, 2OT) and at W.B. Mason Stadium against Post University (76-0) before having the last two weekends off in advance of its NEC debut this weekend. 

New Stonehill Football Gameday Experience

  • Tailgating area remains the same vibrant pregame destination as previous years in the MacPháidín Library lots and will open Saturday at 9 a.m.
  • Debut of the new Beer Garden serviced by Shovel Town Brewery of Easton, located beyond the north end zone at W.B. Mason Stadium, will offer ticketed fans ages 21-and over the opportunity to enjoy some of Shovel Town's renowned craft brews during the game. Cash, credit and debit cards will be accepted in the Beer Garden only, and the beverages will not be allowed outside of the Garden area in the stands.
  • New concession area, with food trucks and concession stand operated by Sodexo Food Service will return after its debut at the home opener on September 10. Fans can pay in these areas with cash, credit and debit, and Stonehill students able to pay with their HillCard as well.

  • Stonehill also unveiled a new online ticketing system on September 10 that will continue for the remainder of the season via stonehillskyhawks.com/tickets. Fans attending Stonehill home football games should plan to purchase their tickets in advance for $12.00 for adults and $7.00 for students and senior citizens (65+) through the day before gameday. Tickets on site at W.B. Mason Stadium the day of games will be $15.00 and $10.00. Stonehill student, faculty and staff tickets will remain free of charge, but are asked to complete the online ticket registration at stonehillskyhawks.com/tickets located at the bottom of the webpage.

In addition to being Family Weekend on campus, the Stonehill football program will be celebrating 50-Years of Stonehill Football on Saturday, welcoming back its alumni over the history of the program, but most notably the inaugural 1970 Stonehill Knights team, that was inducted to the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017, whose captains, Paul Finn, '71 and Bill Kavanaugh, '72 will serve as honorary captains on Saturday and join in the opening coin toss prior to the game.

Saturday's game will also mark the third time Stonehill football will receive national broadcast attention, with its second ESPN3 broadcast. Paul Dottino and former NFL head coach Kevin Gilbride will be calling the action for the NEC Game of the Week.
