EASTON, Mass. (September 5, 2022) – Stonehill College junior placekicker Perry Shelbred and sophomore running back Jarel Washington have both collected weekly accolades from the Northeast Conference following their efforts in leading Saturday's 33-30 comeback win in double-overtime at Bloomsburg (Pa.) University.

Shelbred, who collected Northeast-10 Conference Special Teams weekly honors once last fall, collects NEC Special Teams Player of the Week accolades following Stonehill's debut as an NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FSC) member at Bloomsburg on Saturday. Washington was recognized by the NEC as its Rookie of the Week following a strong collegiate debut as the duo keyed the Skyhawks comeback from an 11-point deficit with less than five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter in the double-overtime triumph. The pair were also recognized as NEC Prime Performers for their efforts.

Shelbred scored 13 points as he converted four of five field goal attempts and his lone extra point try in helping Stonehill to the 33-30 double-overtime win. He delivered field goals from 24, 22, 37 and 31 yards for the Skyhawks, the latter of which came with 16-seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to knot the score and complete a comeback from an 11-point (27-16) deficit with under five minutes to play.

Shelbred leads NEC scoring leaders after the first week of the season with his 13 points and field goals with the four at Bloomsburg. He also averaged 34.0 yards on his seven kickoffs on Saturday.

Shelbred has played 11 games over his two seasons at Stonehill after transferring from the University of Rhode Island after two years in which he did not appear. He has scored 72 points over his Skyhawks career, converting 12-of-21 field goals and 36-of-40 extra point attempts. Shelbred ranked sixth among NE10 scoring leaders in 2021 with 59 points, second in kicker scoring and third in field goals made.

Washington shined in his collegiate debut at Bloomsburg on Saturday to collect his first NEC Rookie of the Week honor. He recorded 99 all-purpose yards, including 50 yards on 11 carries, and scored a pair of touchdowns down the stretch to key the Skyhawks comeback win. Washington collected a pass from sophomore quarterback Ashur Carraha near the sideline and raced 49 yards for a touchdown that pulled Stonehill back within three after the two-point conversion with 4:32 to play. He then clinched the Skyhawks win with a two-yard touchdown in double-overtime to end the game after Bloomsburg had scored a field goal on its second possession.

Washington ranks sixth among NEC leaders for all-purpose yards after the opening weekend, while ranking second in scoring behind Shelbred with his 12 points, and fifth in rushing.

Stonehill (1-0, 0-0 NEC) is back in action on Saturday for its home opener against Post University at W.B. Mason Stadium at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks NEC opener is Saturday, October 1, when they host Duquesne University at W.B. Mason Stadium in a game that will be broadcast by ESPN3 as part of the NEC's Game of the Week package at noon.
