EASTON, Mass. (April 5, 2013) – Sophomore pitcher Jim Duff (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) of the Stonehill College baseball team was named National Pitcher of the Week by D2BaseballNews.com, it was announced today.

Duff collects his first ever National Pitcher of the Week honor following a dominant performance in a 1-0 victory over the ninth ranked Southern New Hampshire University Penmen Saturday afternoon. The sophomore was also named NE-10 Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career, on Monday.

Duff pitched a complete game, one-hitter and struck out eight Penmen to earn the victory Saturday for Stonehill. The sophomore retired the first seventeen batters he faced, before losing his perfect game bid on an error in the sixth. Duff held the Penmen hitless until the eighth inning and retired 27 of the 31 batters he faced in the contest.

On the year, Duff is 3-3 with a 1.77 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 45.2 innings pitched. He collected wins against Felician College and the University of Bridgeport, before taking home the victory over Southern New Hampshire. The sophomore returns to action Saturday afternoon to face-off against Le Moyne College in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup.

So far this season the Skyhawks have posted a 15-9 overall record with a 3-1 divisional mark. They are ranked fifth in the East Region and have been ranked as high as 21st in the NCBWA National Poll.
