EASTON, Mass. (April 27, 2013) – The Stonehill College baseball team took the second game of a Northeast-10 Conference double-header with the Saint Anselm College Hawks, 2-0 after dropping game one, 13-7 Saturday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field in Easton, Mass.

Sophomore Joe Morin (Salem, N.H./Salem) paced the offense for Saint Anselm in game one. Morin went 3-for-6 with two doubles, four RBI, and one run for the Hawks. Senior Richie Manzi (Plymouth, N.H./Plymouth Regional), junior Tito Lluberes (Lawrence, Mass./Lawrence), and sophomore Mike Hayden (Cranston, R.I./Cranston West) also recorded multi-RBI games for the Hawks in the victory.
Junior Billy Karalis (Pawtucket, R.I./Bishop Feehan) led the way for Stonehill in the first game. Karalis went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Freshman Chris Callahan (Southington, Conn./Holy Cross High) also knocked in two runs for Stonehill in the loss.
Freshman pitcher Paul Trabucco (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) got the victory for Saint Anselm in five innings of relief. The freshman yielded two earned runs on seven hits and one walk, while striking out two batters in the win.
Sophomore Steve Pike (Stoughton, Mass./Catholic Memorial) was saddled with the loss for the Skyhawks. Pike pitched 1.1 innings and was charged with two runs (one earned) on two hits. Pike also struck out one batter in the loss.
Saint Anselm struck first, scoring three runs in the first inning. With the bases loaded and one out in the inning, Morin stepped to the plate and launched a double to the gap in left center field, clearing the bases for a 3-0 Hawks lead.
The Hawks added to their lead with one run in the fourth. After freshman Ken Morrisino (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) singled and stole second base, Manzi drove him in with a RBI-single to center field.
The Skyhawks responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to knot the score at four. With runners on first and second and no outs, junior Anthony Pagano (Cranston, R.I./Cranston West) hit a RBI-single through the right side, plating the Skyhawks' first run. Later in the inning, Karalis roped a run-scoring triple to right center field. Senior Michael Zeiner (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) joined the hit party when he singled to left center field, scoring Karalis for the third run of the game. Callahan tied the game when he singled to right field, scoring Zeiner to tie the game at four.
Saint Anselm took the lead right back with a run in the top of the fifth inning. With Morin on third base following a single and an error by the center fielder, Rett Ostafin (Port St. Lucia, Fla./Suffield Academy) hit a sacrifice fly to left field to give the Hawks a 5-4 edge.
Stonehill fought back to score tie the game back up in the sixth inning. After Karalis walked and advanced to third on a groundout and a balk, Callahan once again tied the game when he hit a RBI-single up the middle.
Once again the Hawks broke the tie with one run in the seventh. Hayden stepped to the plate with one out and a runner on third and hit a sacrifice fly to left field, giving the Hawks a 6-5 advantage.
The Skyhawks knotted the game once again with a run in the bottom of the inning. Following a leadoff double by Brian Campbell (Franklin, Mass./Mount Saint Charles) and a ground out to shortstop that moved Campbell to third, Karalis hit an infield single to third base to score Campbell for the game-tying run.
The game would go to extra innings, where Saint Anselm quickly closed out the game. After the Hawks loaded the bases with one out in the tenth, Lluberes hit a two-run single down the left field line to put Saint Anselm up two. The Hawks would get five more runs to put the game out of reach for Stonehill.

Soulier pitches 8.0 innings to stifle the Hawks for the game two victory.
Junior left-hander Zach Soulier (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) pitched 8.0 superb innings and claimed his fourth victory of the season for Stonehill. Soulier held the Hawks scoreless on six hits and four walks, while striking out four. Sophomore Ryan Rougeot (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) pitched a hitless, scoreless ninth inning to earn his first save of the season.
Junior Zach Brian (Stoneham, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) pitched an eight-inning complete game, but took the loss for Saint Anselm. Brian yielded two runs (one earned) on nine hits and one walk in the loss.
The Skyhawks were led by juniors Dan Fratus (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) and Pagano. Fratus went 1-for-3 with a walk, a single, and a RBI, while Pagano went 3-for-4 with two doubles.
Manzi once again piloted the Hawks' offense, leading the way with a 2-for-3 showing. Morin and Ostafin also recorded hits in game two for Saint Anselm.
The Skyhawks scored the only two runs of the game in the bottom of the third inning. Back-to-back-to-back singles by Zeiner, Chris Hoyt (Walpole, Mass./Xaverian Brothers), and James DeAlto (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) loaded the bases for Fratus. Fratus forced a walk to bring home Zeiner for the first run of the game. The Skyhawks got another when Karalis reached on an error by the second baseman, scoring Hoyt for the second run of the game.
That was all Soulier needed, as the junior standout retired nine of the final 11 batters he faced before Rougeot came in and shut the door in the ninth.
Stonehill (21-19, 9-13 NE-10) and Saint Anselm (17-26-1, 6-12 NE-10) return to Lou Gorman Field for the rubber game of this three game series tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 pm.
