Softball Edged in Bryant Doubleheader

EASTON, Massachusetts (April 18, 2023)- Today, the Stonehill College softball team hosted a non-conference doubleheader against the Bulldogs of Bryant University, where the Skyhawks put up a strong battle in both games, earning runs and putting up a strong defense.

Game 1: The Skyhawks played their first game of the day with a 3 p.m. start, losing with a score of 3-6.

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:                           

  • In the bottom of the first inning and the top of the order, centerfielder Natalie Bottiglieri started the Skyhawks off strong with a triple through the left side.
  • Right after, DP Paige Wodarski singled to right field, sending Bottiglieri home, earning an RBI, and putting the Skyhawks on the board.
  • In the bottom of the third, with pinch-runner Maeve Proulx on second and pinch-runner Katelin Price on third, catcher Isabella Therrien hit the ball through the infield off of an error by the second basemen, allowing Proulx and Price to make it home, earning 2 RBI's and tying the score 3-3.
  • Starting in the circle for the Skyhawks was pitcher Lauren Donovan, who threw a solid game with 29 strikes and a strikeout. Pitcher Kelly Mayette took over during the fifth inning, throwing 16 strikes and two strikeouts.

Loss: Stonehill- Lauren Donovan (56-29), Kelly Mayette (31-16)


Game 2: The Skyhawks played their second game of the day right after, losing by a score of 1-4.

Key Moments:                           

  • In the bottom of the second inning, the Skyhawks were down by one run, and third basemen Shannon Conte hit a deep ball towards left center, sending it over the fence, and earning a homerun and an RBI, tying the score.

    Pitcher Skylar Brandemarte pitched a great game for Stonehill, throwing a '3 up, 3 down' inning in the top of the fourth and throwing 44 strikes.
  • In the bottom of the fifth inning, second basemen Emily Nardelli singled up the middle, with left fielder Alexa Adinolfi grounding out to third base right after, earning a SAC by advancing Nardelli to second. Shortly after, Nardelli advanced to third on a passed ball by Bryant, with the inning ending soon after.
  • With the Skyhawks continuing to battle to take the lead, Proulx pinch-ran for Wodarski on first, and was able to steal second in the bottom of the sixth inning. Third basemen Marissa Dwyer grounded out to second with a sacrifice fly, advancing Proulx to third, but wasn't able to make it home before the end of the inning.

The Stonehill Softball team is back in action at home on Fr. Gartland field in Easton, Mass. on Saturday, April 22nd for a doubleheader conference match-up against Fairleigh Dickinson University at 1 pm & 3 pm and Sunday, April 23rd at noon for a two-day weekend series.
