LA JOLLA, Calif. (February 10, 2023)- The Stonehill College softball team has started their 2023 season off in La Jolla, California, where the team competed in the La Jolla Invitational, hosted by UC San Diego today. They started the tournament with a game against the University of Utah, where the team had a tough loss of 8-0.

Standout Performances:

Kelly Mayette: 2 Strikeouts
Courtney Brochu: 2 Hits

Key Moments:

Second Base Courtney Brochu was able to snag a hit to left field in the top of the second inning, then struck out swinging in the top of the fourth, but made it to first base on a wild pitch.
Pitcher Kelly Mayette faced 25 batters, pitching 109 pitches and 55 strikes, and throwing two strikeouts.
As the game went on, Utah posted 8 runs between the first and third innings including a triple score by Julia Jimenez, making two RBIs.

Loss: Stonehill- Kelly Mayette

In Stonehill College softball's second game of their California trip, the Skyhawks fell to UC San Diego by a score of 4-0 later that afternoon at the Triton Softball Field.

Standout Performances:

Skylar Brandemarte: 1 Strikeout
Chloe Kelly: 1 Hit
Shannon Conte: 1 Hit

Key Moments:

Centerfielder Chloe Kelly was up to bat in the fourth inning, hitting a single up the middle, and landing on first base but was left on base by the end of the inning. In the top of the sixth, Kelly was walked to first, making it to second base before the end of the inning.
Third Baseman Shannon Conte hit in the top of the fifth inning, singling out to the left side of the field, with pinch-runner Maeve Proulx taking first base.
Pitcher Skylar Brandemarte pitched the entirety of the game, throwing one strikeout and 48 strikes.
As the game went on, San Diego made four runs during their at-bats, earning a single run in the bottom of the fifth and three in the bottom of the sixth.
