Skyhawk Softball Battle Hard in Last Day of FIU Classic

MIAMI, Florida. (March 5, 2023)- The Stonehill College softball team finished the FIU Classic in Miami, Florida this afternoon, ending up in the fourth seed and playing against tournament host Florida International University. The Skyhawks finished the last day of the tournament with a 12:30 p.m. game.

GAME 1: The Skyhawks put up a tough battle against FIU, ending the game with a loss and a score of 1-5 after seven innings.

Highlights:

  • To start the game off, right fielder Natalie Bottiglieri was at the top of the order and hit a single to shortstop, earning a single at the top of the first inning. Left fielder Alexa Adinolfi stepped up to the plate next, hitting to third and being thrown out at first, advancing Bottiglieri to second, but was caught stealing and thrown out at third.
  • In the bottom of the first inning, third basemen Shannon Conte made a quick dive to stop a line drive, throwing out the FIU runner at first base.

  • In the bottom of the second inning, second basemen Courtney Brochu ran out of bounds to catch an FIU foul ball, before turning around and throwing to shortstop Emily Nardelli to tag the FIU runner on first out, earning a double play.
  • Catcher Isabella Therrien was up to bat at the top of the third inning, hitting a single and making it to first, but was advanced to second base off of an FIU error. Shortly after, Therrien was advanced to third base off of a wild pitch from FIU, to then score off of another wild pitch from FIU, leaving the Skyhawks trailing FIU by one run.
  • Bottiglieri hit another single to shortstop in the third inning, with Adinolfi also singling to left field after, advancing Bottiglieri to second before the end of the inning.
  • In the bottom of the third inning, pitcher Skylar Brandemarte had a quick inning, having a "three up, three down" inning, facing only three runners and grabbing three outs.
