Softball Falls To Sacred Heart In Doubleheader

EASTON, Massachusetts (April 2, 2023)- Today, the Stonehill College softball team hosted the Pioneers of Sacred Heart University at Fr. Gartland Field for a doubleheader matchup. The Skyhawks battled hard, playing a tough game this afternoon.

Game 1: In the first game of today's doubleheader, the Skyhawks were able to put four runs on the board, but couldn't grab the win, with a loss of 4-12.

Key Moments:

  • In game one, starting at the top of the first inning, the Skyhawks took to the field with pitcher Kelly Mayette threw hard and got a three up, three down inning. In the top of the second, Mayette did it again, with back-to-back three up, three down innings.
  • In the bottom of the third inning, Centerfielder Natalie Bottiglieri and third basemen Shannon Conte made it on base after being walked, with DP Paige Wodarski up next. Wodarski hit a far ball to the left side, advancing pinch runner Megan Weis to second, and Bottiglieri made it home.
  • Shortly after, catcher Isabella Therrien makes it to first on a walk, advancing Wodarski to second, and Weis to third. Alyssa Grossi is up next, and hits a far ball to the outfield, sending Therrien to second, Wodarski to third, and Weis home, putting up a second run for the Skyhawks. 
  • Right after, second basemen Courtney Brochu hit a triple to the right side, sending Grossi and Therrien home, tying the game 4-4.
  • In the top of the fifth inning, pitcher Skylar Brandemarte stepped into the circle, she was able to earn a three up, three down inning.

Loss: Stonehill- Kelly Mayette (81-26), Lauren Donovan (20-10), Skylar Brandemarte (6-3)


Game 2: In the second game of today's doubleheader, the Skyhawks fell to the Pioneers, with the game cut to six innings with a 0-10 loss.

  • In the top of the first inning of game two, the Skyhawks took to the field with pitcher Brandemarte threw a three up, three down inning.
  • In the bottom of the second, shortstop Emily Nardelli singled through the left side, advancing Therrien to second before the inning ended.

The Stonehill Softball team is back in action on the road in Andover, Massachusetts on Thursday, April 6th at 10 a.m. and Friday, April 7th at noon and 2 p.m. for a three-game series against Northeast Conference competitor Merrimack College.
