Skyhawk Softball Falls In First Home Doubleheader Against Holy Cross

EASTON, Massachusetts (March 29, 2023)- Today, the Stonehill College softball team hosted their first home doubleheader of the 2023 season against the College of The Holy Cross at Fr. Gartland Field. The Skyhawks put up a good effort, leaving the first game without a run, but scoring 6 runs in the second game.

GAME 1: In the first game against Holy Cross, the Skyhawks couldn't make it home, leaving the score 0-8 in five innings.

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • For the start of the game, pitcher Skylar Brandemarte threw two strikeouts and 32 strikes during her time on the mound.
  • In the top of the fourth inning, pitcher Molly Adamo stepped up to the mound to relieve Brandemarte, throwing two strikeouts and 16 strikes.
  • Holy Cross took the lead in the first inning and was able to hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the fifth inning, securing their win in five innings,
  • The Skyhawks put up a team effort, knocking down outs in the infield and outfield throughout the game, but weren't able to reach home during game one

Win: Holy Cross- Yurchick (56-37)

Loss: Stonehill- Skylar Brandemarte (57-32), Molly Adamo (29-16)


GAME 2: But, In the second game against Holy Cross, the Skyhawks were able to put some runs on the scoreboard, unable to clutch the win with a loss of 6-10.

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • In the bottom of the third inning, with shortstop Emily Nardelli on first, centerfielder Natalie Bottiglieri stepped up to the plate, starting the hitting strong for the Skyhawks with a double, advancing Nardelli to third.
  • Next, catcher Isabella Therrien stepped up to hit, knocking a triple into right field, sending Nardelli, Bottiglieri, and DP Paige Wodarski on first to score at home, earning three RBIs, and tying the score 3-3. 
  • Still in the bottom of the third, first basemen, Alyssa Grossi smacked a single into left field, sending Therrien home, earning an RBI, and taking the lead with a score of 4-3.
  • Keeping the hitting going, left fielder Alexa Adinolfi hit a single to left field, pinch hitter Kelly Price walked, and Nardelli grounded out to third base, advancing the two baserunners to second and third.
  • Shortly after, third basemen Shannon Conte hit a single to left field, advancing to second on a fielding error, and sending both Price and Adinolfi home to make the score 6-9.

Loss: Stonehill- Kelly Mayette (51-31), Lauren Donovan (4), Skylar Brandemarte (14)

 

Up Next:

Stonehill is on the field this weekend, Saturday, April 1st against conference competitor Sacred Heart University, where the Skyhawks will host a home doubleheader matchup at Fr, Gartland Field at 1 p.m. & 3 p.m. Then, the Skyhawks will host Sacred Heart again on Sunday, April 2nd for the last day of the weekend series at home at noon.
