Assumption Stuns Baseball in NE10 Tournament First Round, 10-4

WORCESTER, Massachusetts (May 11, 2021) – The fifth-seeded Stonehill College baseball team (17-15, 12-12 NE10) fell to the fourth-seeded Assumption University (12-10, 11-10 NE10), 10-4, Tuesday afternoon in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament first round at Rocheleau Field.

This was the Skyhawks 17th appearance in the NE10 Tournament and first year since 2015.

Duarte went 2-for-2 with a walk and his second-career triple, scoring two runs 

Assumption put a run on the board in the first and second innings off an RBI single to right center from Matt Schneider and an RBI double from Chris Wironen to right center, 2-0. The Greyhounds's Cole Chudoba retired seven-straight before the Skyhawks put a runner on base in the top of the third inning, breaking his momentum with a walk from Duarte.

With runners on first and second in the top of the third, Kiely drove home the Skyhawks first run of the game, cutting the deficit to one, 2-1. In the top of the fourth, Ciulla-Hall tied the game with his single up the middle.

Stonehill looking to fight back, was only able to put up a run in each of the seventh and the eighth on another sacrifice fly from Kiely and then a ground out. Assumption broke open the game after take a one-run lead in the bottom of the sixth, 3-2, scoring seven runs between the seventh and eighth innings, 10-4.

Stonehill wrapped up the season 17-15 overall and 12-12 in Conference play, while the Greyhounds move on to the second round of the NE10 Tournament as they face the top-seeded Southern New Hampshire University on Thursday, May 13.
