Baseball Wins Against Franklin Pierce, 12-9, Falls 9-4

RINDGE, New Hampshire (April 24, 2021) – The Stonehill College baseball team (11-10, 6-8 NE10) defeated Northeast-10 Conference foe, Franklin Pierce University (10-4, 7-3 NE10), 12-9, in game one, and fell 9-4 in game two Saturday afternoon at Pappas Field.

The Stonehill College baseball team is ranked No. 3 in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) week three rankings.

Game 1: Stonehill 12 – Franklin Pierce 9

Key Moments:

Franklin Pierce saw Randy Flores score from third on a wild pitch, after a lead-off walk and then moving around the bases with two stolen bases for a 1-0 advantage. Stonehill put up five combined runs from the third to the fifth innings off of seven hits, 5-1. Of the seven hits, included Herrick's second-career homerun, a two-run blast in the top of the fourth.

The Ravens cut the deficit to three, 5-2, with a sacrifice fly from Flores in the bottom of the fifth. The sixth inning was the most productive for both teams, as Stonehill put up four runs on three hits, including Beauregard's first-career homerun, 9-2. Franklin Pierce chipped away at the score, to come within two runs with five runs, 9-7.

Stonehill put a total of three runs up on the board between the eighth and the ninth, 12-9. Franklin Pierce tried to get back in the game with two runs of their own in the bottom of the ninth, but not before the Skyhawks retired the side, holding on for their third-straight win.

Key Moments:

Franklin Pierce acted early this game, seeing four runs cross home plate in the bottom of the first inning, where Randy Flores and Dylan Jones homered and Jonel Ozuna singled up the middle, for a 4-0 advantage.

In the top of the third with one out, Orzechowski blasted a three-run homerun, his first career shot, to right center to cut the deficit to one, 4-3. However, the Ravens quickly responded with two outs, as Jones drove home Patane on a double, and Boria sent the ball over the left center wall for a two-run homerun, putting their lead back to three, 7-3.

The Ravens retired 10-straight from the third to the sixth, as they put up a run in the fourth and fifth, extending their advantage to six, 9-3. Stonehill snuck in one more run in the top of the seventh, as Kiely recorded an RBI single, scoring Chris Roberti (New Fairfield, Connecticut/Canterbury) from third, 9-4.
