EASTON, Massachusetts (April 10, 2021) – The Stonehill College baseball team (6-7, 3-7 NE10) fell to Assumption University (4-4, 4-4 NE10) Saturday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field in Northeast-10 Conference play with scores of 9-2 and 4-0.
Game 1: Stonehill 2 – Assumption 9

Key Moments:
Assumption threatened in each of the first couple of innings, as Emilio Acosta's RBI double to left center brought home Connor Wironen from second in the top of the third for a 1-0 advantage. Stonehill responded in the bottom of the sixth, tying the game on a throwing error with two outs, 1-1.
The Greyhounds broke open the game in the top of the seventh with two outs, starting with a two-run single from Derek Adamson scoring Acosta and Dillon Zona, 3-1. With the bases loaded and two outs, Matt Lonardo walked bringing in a run, followed by back to back singles, and then a run off of a wild pitch, for a six-run lead, 7-1.
Assumption put up two more runs in the top of the eighth and only allowed Stonehill one more run in the bottom of the frame, 9-2, as the Greyhounds held on for the win.

Key Moments:
Both teams stranded a runner on base in the first inning, as Matt Lonardo put up the first tally for the Greyhounds, 1-0, with a solo blast to left field. With runners in scoring position, Hamel crossed home on a passed ball and then Wironen found a hole in the right side scoring Zona, putting Assumption up 3-0.
After three scoreless innings, Assumption's R.J. Libby drove the ball out to left field with runners on first and third, bringing home Wironen from third, 4-0. Stonehill had their best opportunity at scoring in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with three singles. The Greyhounds got out of the jam as Kiely grounded into a double play.
